Funny thing is I've already had Motown 25 on DVD for years...downloaded the show and burned it on to a DVD lol But I may check out the 3-disk set. Wonder what extras will be on it?

Who else thinks it was shady for Motown to schedule El Debarge right after Michael Jackson on the show? lol Maybe it was intentional because I have seen many documentaries and whatnot that suggested that El Debarge was being marketed as the next MJ. I wonder if MJ was jealous of El because that seemed to be the folklore surrounding the relationship between those two as competitors.

Debarge as talented as he was/ is was never on MJ's level. I doubt Michael would've been jealous of him especially when he was on his meteoric rise to mega-stardom at the time.

Not to mention the 2 were only barely 3 years apart in age.

Well, I think it was because of El Debarge's looks. I also heard that MJ was apparently jealous of Prince's looks. Remember, the 80s was the decade of the light-skinned black men smile) I think Motown was expecting the Debarge family to be the next Jacksons....old shady Jermaine even said that himself.

Rick I'm not sure about, but Gladys and the Pips had somewhat a contentious relationship with Motown, to the point where it came to a 3 to1 vote on whether to even SIGN with the company or not (though Miss Knight never said, it's assumed that SHE was the 1 to the felllas' 3). In any case, by the time of Motown 25, the entire group felt it would be a bit fake for them to "celebrate" the company they felt didn't show them the respect they felt they deserved.

I should check Rick James' autobiography. There was probably something about Motown 25 in it.

You wonder about jealousy alot.

You wonder if MJ was jealous of DeBarge.

You wonder if Prince is jealous of Bruno Mars.

Makes me wonder:

Do you think Janet Jackson is jealous of Beyonce?

Do you think John Mayer is jealous of Justin Bieber?

Do you think OJ is jealous of Robert Blake?

Do you think Captain Kangeroo was jealous of Mister Rogers?

lol

I'm not sure if this was his official reason for not attending, but Rick James was in the studio working on his Cold Blooded album around the time that the Motown 25th annniversary took place.

Hmmm...For some reason I thought New Edition performed on Motown 25-1983...Maybe I'm thinking about Motown Returns to the Applo 1985...I think Motown 25 won Emmys....Networks won't air a 3hr Special with nothing but singing...The 80's was a good Decade for Music and Artist appreciation....

The dvd will contain the same footage as the VHS tape which also mentioned it contained 20 minutes of additional material.

Footage of "the alledged shove" will never ever surface razz

Well dang, that sucks. Ah well, that omission isn't going to keep me from buying the 6 disc set! I need some real music to listen to from real artists with real talent on a real show whenever its Grammy, Billboard, AMA, or VMA season.

This is worth it on the strength of rehearsal footage alone! They couldn't get away with putting out a collector's set without gems like that. I'm hoping they purposely neglected to mention the Jackson's rehearsal footage but included it in this set.

'Tis a bit excessive, i agree. On the other hand someone mentioned "real music from real artists" and that seems worth the price of me getting a main-pedi. So, yes, I'm going to get this awesome set.

They have a comercial, and the Jacksons are barley mentioned.

It's weird that Michael and the Jacksonshad the biggest moments on this special, yet the add is barley giving them notice.

Stevie, Smokey, Marvin the Tempts and the Tops get all the shine on the comercial.
