That gave her a resurgence in the mid-00s, especially mainly that R&B "ballad" sound We Belong Together which then she ran to the ground until now. She and her label obviously thought getting a hit had a certain recipe that would work until the end of time, but music and people's taste just don't work like that. It was a matter of time that her success completely ran out, once again, I don't think this is the LEAST surprising and it was already a bonus that she sold a millions more of records in 2005-2008.
YES! and most other female singers do this nowadays too. Katy Perry, Rihanna, Beyonce. All have the ''upbeat dancy track'' then a ballad... then a dance track... then a ratchet... then a ballad.

I think the only place women can keep making music of that age and still have the large following is (true) R&B, gospel, jazz and the traditional forms of those genres as well. Nancy Wilson is what, like 70, and she's still going strong There seems to be more blatant ageism in other genres of music.
Jay-Z kills me with his "businessman" and then twice-retired rapper persona. He's using his screamer/singer wife to stay relevant. Otherwise, how would 12 year olds even know who he is?
Yeah Dre can drop an album and I'm sure it would gain intrigue because he's the face of Beats, so that helps too.

Very few OLD artists get their new stuff played and IF and i mean IF they get any play its on AC radio, Lionel Richie, Richard Marx, Elton John all their new stuff gets some AC play. If your PRINCE maybe RB radio, but OLD rb Radio gives you a spin, BUT Prince has to do that same ballad he's been doing for the last 20 years. All his RB get on the radio songs are the same, "Somebody Somebody" "Future Baby Mama" "Call My Name" Satisfied" "extraordinary" etc..these songs are all in the same vein, and after awhile of hearing them, it makes him boring to be honest. He hasnt crossed over in 20 years and even then he was pretty much done at radio. And honestly he was only 35,36 at the time thats not that old, but today its like a dinosaur to radio.

I worked on one of the commercials she did for Cosmopolitan. She had a 2 page lists of demands... that had to be met or she wouldn't come to set. And the demands included white curtains, white candles, specials and expensive soaps, a personal chef, a puppy, a blu ray player, and a separate trailer just for her makeup.
When she got there she made no eye contact with us. And wouldn't talk to any of the crew! her manager had to do all the talking. And had this fem little makeup guy talking to her at 2,000 words a minute. She wouldn't speak to anyone who didn't have money or wasn't making her look good.
I know a woman who is a babysitter and done it for celebrity kids. She went to a party where J-Lo was at and said she was sweet to the other rich people. But treated the maids and help like shit.

I worked on a commercial where the ''diva'' herself was going to grace us with her presence. She came late. had people lighting her, and gave attitude. She literally has her own lighting team.. HER OWN FUCKING LIGHTING TEAM. To make sure she looks extra pretty during interviews or filming. I mean, how vain can you be? fucking a. She also fired some dude because he got her coffee wrong... seriously. She wanted it cold, not hot. And dude got fired for it -.-
She's also gone through 6 babysitters because she's a diva about that. She barely ever sees her kids since she'd rather be promoting and still trying to look 20. I also hear she likes everything butterfly shaped... does that mean toilet paper too?
How so many women (and gay men) can idolize these evil and disgusting heathens. Is beyond me... and then try to say there good people. They don't give 2 fucks about the ''lambs'' or the ''j-hoes'' unless you give money.

Yeah she was great with Marc Anthony in that movie, you should check it out. I think the only female singer who successfully balanced music and movies is Janet and that's because she started acting before singing.
