To be fair, those are first week sales figures from retailers located in UK. On Wednesday (July 9th), Nielsen SoundScan will release weekly numbers for North America.

I know UK sales figures. 100,000 first week, as Ed Sheeran has done, is a bonafide hit. 50,000 first week, is a hit. 30,000 first week is a minor hit. 10-15,000 first week, is very respectable. 5,000 first week is respectable if you're a new or a niche act.

540 is a joke. I know rappers who sell their mixtapes on the STREETS that sell more than 500 a week.

And this dude had THE biggest selling song of 2013 here. Blurred Lines sold a million records JUST here, I believe.

It's not surprising at all.If you listen to the album,there aren't really any "hits" on it.The music is good,but there's nothing nearly as catchy as "Blurred Lines" on this album.Radio is not gonna play these songs.I think Robin knew this,but doesn't care.Now that he has expressed his deep feelings to Paula (with a very personal album),he should call up Pharrell and move on quickly to the next album.

He's doing better than Prince. hehe.

After listening to the album,I knew it wasn't gonna be a big seller.The album is good,but there's nothing on it that could become a radio hit."Fovever Love" might make some noise on the charts.I really don't think Robin was thinking about a 'commercial hit',when he made this album.

We talk about this guy like he has sold millions and millions of records and is a big artist, NIETHER is what he is. I cant believe this day and age people still get riled up on this shit, who cares what he sells, is it a good record? To me he had one giant hit that im sure now he wishes he didnt have becuase in ways he now is tarnished as "white guy" ripping off music like Michael Bolton, which is unfair but he did it to himself.

Robin Thicke was on VH1's Top 20 Countdown the other day, and he basically said that he conceived, wrote, recorded, and mixed the album all in about a month's time between April and May of this year. And he never did an album anywhere near this fast in the past, so I'm guessing he was doing this as therapy and not to make hits.

Why the fuck people keep coming up with this bullshit that Blurred Lines was

his only hit. So it's his one big crossover hit. Are we to say that Lost Without You and Sex Therapy which were both R&B chart toppers are any less because they didn't top the so

called power 100. Lost Without You put him on the map. Maybe it wasn't the world map

but r&b fans certainly knew who he was. He's also had other top 10 or top 15 hits on the

r&b charts so fuck Blurred Lines.

Not sure about the US, but in the UK, the song "blurred lines" was huge, but people bought it because of the song and not the artist, if you know what I mean.

He has no "brand recognition" over in the UK. Artists like Coldplay and even Michael Jackson do. So it's not surprising the numbers are so low in the UK.

No inbuilt fan base over here.

Because a lot of these Org's do not like RnB music and know nothing about it. The CD may do well on the RnB charts but if it has a lot of soulful ballads Pop radio will not play one cut from it.

It does not mean RnB music is bad it just that Pop stations like playing the worst of it and will not touch any RnB artist that can actually carrying a tune and bring some musicianship to the table.
