I can't stand either one of them, but what you're talking about is the only think Minaj has going for her, too.
So it's okay for Minaj to be liked for no reason other than her looks but with Iggy it's not?
Top 40 music sucks and the only reason ANYONE is there is primarily because of image.
There hasn'tbeen substance in Top 40 music in a looong time and that probably had more to do with people who happen to have an image/brand/whatever that went along with their substance.

Austrailians and people born in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago like Minaj to me have about the same level of American street cred.

Beautiful? I won't comment on that. I just find it interesting that she has a black NBA player quickly on had for photo ops. Is that her attempt to be black? You know, in the way many on here accuse Nicki of trying to be "white"? Trolls be gone!

You reeeaaaalllllllyyyyy hate this chick, don't you?
Nicki has never tried to be white; she tries to be accepted, like all pop stars. That means she has to play with her image. Its her job. Mass acceptance is part of being a pop star. Its Iggy's job, too. It would seem that she has been around/finds herself most comfortable around black people as long as she's been in the U.S. If she looked like Adele and was dating an ex-con, nobody would care. When she was dating A$AP Rocky, there was only a mumble or a mutter here and there. Nobody cared. As soon as she started dating an athlete - BOOM! She's tapped into the holy golddigger grail and now its open season on chick. Honestyly, I couold care less who she dates, bangs or whatever. I just don't see her as this evil monster bitch who is both racist and brotha-hungry, manipulating the black male population while simultaneously appropriating black culture. She doesn't seem fake to me. From her interviews, she just doesn't seem smart enough to be some kind of mastermind. She just seems like a young chick who can rap and has some looks who digs black culture who is being used by corporate record companies to sell an image. She ain't a "big picture" kinda gal.

Don't see the forest for the trees much, do you? A sharp eagle doesn't show her claws. Seems to me a lot of black guys these days willfully fawn all over the leftovers of the white guys. Meanwhile, black women are expected to be okay with this and fight over the handful of you all that still date us (but don't marry us).
This follows that same path. Black men giving this chick a pass because she's having fun at the "pretend to be black playground" for the moment...I don't think I need data on this situation, just think about the high numbers of black men who take the leftovers from white men and then act like she's a queen or something.
This isn't about hate. I have seen this play out so many times and feel like it's okay for me to share what I have seen happen over and over again. [Edited 7/18/14 10:26am] Trolls be gone!

You're so busy looking at the forest that you don't see the top view; the google earth view. These old white guys sitting in offices couldn't give a f*ck less about Iggy. They care about money. If you believe anything different, you're wrong. They are using her to gain influence. They seek control and that's it. She AND ALL OTHER POP CHICKS are just tools for them to make money. Every chick they invest in is where she is to make them money in some way or another. There is a reason its getting harder and harder to tell music videos from commercials. That young knucklehead HAS NO POWER AT ALL. She has no "claws"; she's product. She probably thinks to heself "I just want to do music and be famous" but there is a price for that. They all think that at first. But I will address your point for a sec: black women seem to be collectively angry at any white woman who dates black men. It doesn't seem to matter if its real love or not. But it go even further, its only certain black men. Like I said before, NOBODY CARED WHEN SHE WAS DATING A$AP ROCKY. It only became an issue when she started messing around with black womens' prize possession: the black male athlete. Of all of the men, these are the ones black women actively CHASE the most. A lot of them aren't too bright, so they can be manipulated. They have deep pockets. They are famous. They are in good shape. They can pay for a woman's extravagant lifestyle, take care of her family and even get them a reality show. Its fame and money trickle-down. Athletes are less likely to go broke than singers or rappers and less likely to go to jail. This makes them perfect targets. Mothers plan to marry off their daughters to athletes. They are the royalty of the black community. This is why black women hate to see them not only with white women of any kind but with "foreign" women, even if they too are black. Black American women view black athletes as their exclusive property to be fought over amoungst each other and no one else. If Iggy were dating Skrillex or some white athlete, no one would care. She tapped into the "sacred holy grail" of sistas and now she is under the gun. If her crowd was solely white instead of mostly white, black women would have no problem with her like they have no problem with rappers like Mac Miller. Nope. This is not the case. She is hated for who she dated and who she hangs around. That's the real bottom line. Let her get pregnant by dude; sistas will put a hit out on her ass.

I really doubt that you all would be putting this much effort into defending Nicki Minaj....oh wait, you're not putting any effort into defending her at all. Point proven. Trolls be gone!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I remember when I was defending Nicki when people were on here calling her a Kim clone and saying she couldn't rap. I have a preference for the truth. Nicki has her own style and sound as well. I don't think Iggy is this hustle mastermind that you seem to believe she is. If she was, she wouldn't be rapping, she'd be signing "Iggys" herself.

You need to get your facts straight missy. Nick Young is the one that came after Iggy! He sent her a message on Twitter. HE had a crush on HER! HE asked HER out. That is how they started dating. Yes it works her favor now. But she didn't initiate it. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! You need to actually read with both eyes open, missy. Seems that you skipped right over what I wrote about black men accepting any old kind of mediocrity of the white man's leftovers. But, whatever, if you want to pretend to see words that I didn't write, then happy trails. Trolls be gone!

I agree with what you wrote here. I have freely admitted that I am not exactly a fan of Nicki but as you said, she's got a bit more talent in the hip-hop genre than most people give her credit for since she crossed over into pop music. I think her transition into pop was career suicide. I think the Nicki haters probably felt threatened that Nicki was among her peers at the BET awards (getting more awards) and talking about her skills. I imagine if the reverse were happening (Iggy getting an award at the MTV awards) and if she made comments to "diss" Nicki, nobody would think of it as a rivalry and wouldn't give it a second thought.
The only thing I will add on to what you wrote is that I still think it's pretty clear that the whole thing of strategically placing her around black men such as T.I. and her NBA boyfriend is strictly for marketing purposes and to draw in more black males to her fanbase.
But, there's just no way that a person with only two hits should ever be declared the new face of hip-hop over a person who has been doing the same for several years. Trolls be gone!

Why radio stations were forced to play Iggy Azalea’s ‘Fancy’ at least 150 timesSun., Jul. 20,
by TJ Armour
Does it seem like every fourth song you hear on the radio is Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy”? Well there’s a reason. According to a story by the Washington Post, Azalea and other artists have been the benefactors of a new program set forth by Clear Channel Radio, which is the biggest radio outlet in the country. The program is called “On The Verge” and it was designed to help new acts get more exposure on Clear Channel’s 840 stations. Program directors from all over the country vote on a variety of songs and the winning song gets a solid commitment of being played at least 150 times on all the stations for approximately six weeks. Azalea and her record bre...Fancy,” have no doubt benefited from repeated spins and maximum exposure to Clear Channel’s 245 million monthly listeners, but the program doesn’t guarantee the same success for all artists. Tinashe’s “2 On”, Anthony Lewis’ “Candy Rain”, and Jhené Aiko’s “The Worst” have all been featured “On The Verge” songs, but have failed to duplicate Azalea’s chart domination. Tom Poleman, president of national programming platforms for Clear Channel, says everyone wins with “On The Verge.” “I think it’s good for everybody when we can break more artists,” says Poleman. “The listeners win; we win as a company that relies on music as our lifeblood; and our artists certainly win as well.” Poleman insists the program is not designed to give particular artists or their labels an unfair advantage. He maintains that the acts selected are based solely on the quality of their music and not on label pressure.

The other songs they mention are strictly R&B centered and I'm sure they did extremely well on that chart. No controversy here. Just another form of payola.

Nick Young dined out with his "Fancy" girlfriend Iggy Azalea last night. Find out where they went inside...
"Beat Down" rapper Iggy Azalea was spotted signing autographs outside of Mastro's steakhouse in Beverly Hills, CA last night.
Iggy had just finished dining out with her boyfriend, LA Lakers star Nick Young. Earlier in the evening the couplestepped out together on the red carpet at the 2014 ESPYS which Iggy kicked off with a performance of "Fancy."
At the ESPYs, US Magazine asked Nick how he supported Iggy after Nicki Minaj allegedly dissed her at the 2014 BET awards. He said,
"Oh man! You know, it is what it is. I had to deal with the aftermath when she came home. When she got home and was going through her phone and hearing all the things and people talking trash about her, you know I had to be there for her. But you know what, Iggy is doing big things and its scaring a lot of people! She don't let it get to her. She's number one right now so what can you do when you are at the top right now? Of course they will all come at you!"
