• Iggy Azalea makes history on the Billboard Hot 100, as "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX, rewrites the record for the longest-leading No. 1 by a female rapper. With a sixth week at the summit, she passes Lil' Kim, who spent five weeks at No. 1 with the all-star collaboration "Lady Marmalade" in 2001.

Nicki Minaj is going to be furious!!

Nicki Minaj is shit. Iggy is the shit.

Izzy is hot. Nikki is hot too. Room for everyone.

Now Ruby Ibarra needs to get some radio airplay.

Let me first say that I wanna congratulate Iggy Az with her 6 week number one spot, if it means something to her. She's working hard for it, she's got her own style, that's gotta be acknowledged.

At the same time, the charts of today are a different beast from what they were back when Lil' Kim, Eve, and Missy were hot. Seems that today a big hit is more likely to linger in the charts, even if there's a lot going on outside of the mainstream channels for music. The venues that control the market are only giving room to a handful of acts to show their stuff, and variation on those mainstream channels has decreased significantly from how it was 15 years ago. New artists and independent artists choose more and more to address potential audiences more directly both by putting their music online via sites like Soundcloud or via social media or their own personal websites, as well as investing more energy in playing local gigs (which can then be uploaded to video sites).

None of that is taken into the Billboard Chart.

The official music charts are increasingly a representation of what was popular YESTERDAY, and even then, it only shows a small portion of what was popular yesterday. Enjoyment of and sharing of new music has become such a real-time and immediate thing now, that no trend-monitoring organisation can properly keep up with it.

Iggy's popularity is undisputed, and 'Fancy' has a lot going for it; I can totally see how it appeals to teens (like my little niece). The fact that Iggy's achieved this victory at a time when mainstream hip hop is particularly a sausage fest (15 years ago you had MC Lyte, Foxy, Kim, Missy, Eve, Brat) is something I certainly cheer for, but it's more of a testament that she's holding her own in a scene that has once more become a guys' playground, then that it says something about how she compares to her female predecessors in hip hop.

And yeah, I agree with Joe there's room for both Nicki and Iggy.

Her rap style is terrible.

The song is ok but the production, featured guest and video make the song - the verses sound very amateur to me.

Style over substance

It doesn't hurt that she is fine either.

^RE: the accent, she lived in Atlanta for a minute though, it's not uncommon for teenagers (since that's what she was when she came to the U.S.) to adopt the local vernacular after moving to a new setting. It'd feel a lot more fake to me if she came directly from Oz and then dropped her debut record with a Southern twang. Drake has been making big money off a Dirty South-styled diction for a while now, and he's Canada-grown.

Why the shock she is horrible? What she is doing is not Hip Hop and it is obvious that the music industry is now going to go out and find these types of chicks to do phoney Hip-Hop to sell to the masses of clueless music fans.

What is sad is that so many good Hip-Hop artist never crossed over to pop audiences so the masses never had a chance to experince real Hip-Hop. I hate what the music industry has done to Hip-Hop but I am realistic enought to realize that this chick is just the tip of the ice berg.

In a recent interview with DJ Vlad, Lord Jamar was right about Iggy Azalea. That girl is the new Nicki Minaj.

And the funny part about it is that Iggy is the white girl that Nicki wish she should've been. Yes, I said it!

My daughter and nephew was talking about this girl Iggy Azalea a couple of months ago, and they said that she has a nice behind, but her rhymes are weak. The only record they like is "Fancy". They said that Nikki still got the floor. I agree that hip-hip has become more watered down and manufactured, not like it used to be, back in the day.

But overall, both of them are attractive ladies, but it's just that Nikki writes and spits her own rhymes.

Tony is right though when i saw Nicki once on set... she talked like a valley girl. And there's proof she was once darker... she has been using whitening creams. I mean look at her ''alt personalities'' they all sound like valley girls.
