Ameriie's new single 'What I Want'; UPDATE: interview! . So now we're getting snippets of a performance that DC-native singer Ameriie Rogers (of '1 Thing' fame) gave in Dubai. Apparently it's a new song named 'What I Want', and it uses a Sugar Hill Gang sample. . . If you ask me, it's good to see Ameriie in action again, given that lately she's been frugal with dealing out new info on her studio work and any progress in the direction of a new album release. It's almost as if she's trying to be the new D'Angelo or Maxwell with how she keeps 'working on' that new album, either entitled 'Cymatika' or 'Because I Love It pt. 2'. . I think she is more or less sizing things up, plus she got married and settles for a bit, but she has been keeping busy, Would love her to do what MYA has been doing and just releasing EP's and music through her own label etc...Im guessing that is what will happen, cant see her signing with a label at this point "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

. Ah, that's fair, that's fair. Wasn't trying to suggest she's just spinning her wheels. At any rate, it's great to see her get back on stage, even for a bit. . I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

she isn't a DC native...just sayin'...i don't get why writers always say that.

She has lived in so many places because of her dad being an Army Intelligence officer, south korea when she was 3 months old where technically that is her "origin" in my opinion even though she schooled in DC and college etc...I think the whole DC thing is used because ONE she has said that is her home, and also i think early on there was an intent to make her more "urban" and saying she is Korean is the last thing that a label wants for a new artist, lets be real on that. . Thanks for catching that... I knew she was an 'Army brat' (pardon my French), but yeah, like lastdecember said, I was quick to associate her with DC (in part also for how she's incorporated the go-go sound on most of her albums), but a fast net search pinpoints her place of birth in Fitchburg MA? Consider the error corrected. . I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

Fitchburg, MA is correct-a-MUNDO. And it would be nice 2c her make a comeback after Sony ran her career into the ground by marketing her "Because I Love It" CD as a Korean import. WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFf?????!!! Anyway...pardon MY French on da Sabbath (heehee.) That album should have been an American release. What were they THINKing???!!! DUMMIES! :-O [Edited 4/27/14 13:06pm] Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

Ask Matthew Knowles why that album was shelved here, also why the 1Thing single from "Touch" though a big hit, was actually at first an under the table move by Amerie passing it off to DJ's cause Sony had other "priorities" had it not been for the clubs and that "secret" move that song would have been out there, but once it started getting "phones" as they say what choice did they have. Matthew Knowles has had a hand in a few careers other than his daughters. . New snippet of 'What I Want' can be found here: . http://www.rap-up.com/201...t-snippet/ . Those comments are harsh, though! This has always been Amerie's sound! Do your thing, honey! . [Edited 5/24/14 13:16pm] [Edited 5/24/14 13:17pm] I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

Again its opinions from the net, which matter as much as a Kanye West opinion in the media. Its also about 10 seconds, how anyone judges something on 10 seconds is beyond me, but then again this is the soundbyte generation that has NO attention span at all, thats why JayZ and Solange are a top news story. ALSO its RapUp.com which is a hideous site and famous for its rants basically if you arent Beyonce or Rihanna you dont exist to RapUp.Com "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

So what you're saying is that Knowles is "shady?" Am I understanding u correctly, lastdecember? I happen 2 think that he IS (very shady.) It's in his eyes and vocal tones. I don't know him personally, but have a hunch from mere observation. Have a good w/e. Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

I can't say the new song interests me a good deal; it's almost indistinguishable from her post -"1 Thing" material.

I love Amerie and always will cause she represents a style that vanished from RB females, I think the biggest shame is that America never got the "Because I Love It" album, though it snuck out in import form, it wasnt the same thing, and there was alot of bad blood and really was the end of her at Sony, because as we know SONY could only have one "rb lady" those decisions were all made on money and Amerie was let go, to keep the peace the album was put out overseas which was good because Amerie made a name for herself there and scored alot of $$ for it. And of course she will always have the audiences in Japan China Korea because those are her roots just as much as DC.
The Because I loVe it record is still one of the 10 best RB records in the 2000's and to me the best of RB females. As for NOW this is what Amerie is best at, its gonna be this way doing clubs and probably releasing stuff without a label, and good for her, because its doing wonders for MYA too who's 2 Eps are the best thing out there now in RB. At age 34 Amerie is past the radio, this track is a possible shot to get on radio but i think more to remind AMERICA which really has only had 1 Amerie album in a decade, and honestly they didnt even hear that last one for the most part because of that labels disasters and LA reid's failures to market her properly. I mean seriously Amerie with LilWayne slapped on the end to get on the radio? Really LA Reid thats your thinking? The "1-thing" about Amerie is that she has her own "sound," however, it seems 2 me that everything she's released post-"1-thing" sounds very similar TO "1 thing" i.e. "Take Control," "Gotta Work," "Why R.U." and now "What I Want." It'd be nice 2 have her get it on with The Neptunes or Pharrell and/or Timbaland, but don't think this'll happen anytime soon; maybe even another go 'round with Rich Harrison; the latter COULD put her in a timewarp which ultimately might spell out "f-a-i-l."
Again, it sounds good, but it sounds like Amerie doing Amerie and not spreading her wings out far enough so that she's thrusted into newer territories. It's passe at best. [Edited 6/22/14 15:37pm] Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.
