I want to tell a story that Miles himself would have wanted to see, something hip, cool, alive and AHEAD.

I’ve taken my marching orders from Miles’ mandates (“Play what’s not there.” “Fear no mistakes. There are none.”) and focused in on a very specific point in his life to explore his relationship with his muse, his voice, his fears and challenges to come out of his silent period and return to the music. I'm hopefully making a movie that tells a story many people can relate to, jazz fan or not.

MILES AHEAD is not just about the music. It’s about what we all face at one time or another in our lives; questions about who we really are, what we have to say and how will we say it. How will we ultimately be defined and who gets to say so?

I've always thought he would be the perfect actor to portray Miles in a movie and now it's becoming a reality. Click the link, watch the video and scroll down the page. This MUST happen and we can make sure it does!

NICE! Don is a gifted actor.

Always thought he'd be the perfect Miles. Hopefully he and it does well. He was certainly an interesting man to say the least

Did you see the episode of Arsenio Hall when DC was on? He was talking about how many years he's been waiting to get this off the ground. If I'm not mistaken, he's going to direct the film as well. He seemed like he was on Cloud 9 talking about this. I bet he'll get an Oscar for this! Hopefully it won't be the kind of film that has a alot of potential but then gets derailed by the Hollywood machine.

Yeah he's the best. I hope he gets his well-deserved critical acclaim when the film debuts.

When I saw the thread title all I could say to myself was "Hallelujer"....Don is beyond capable & amazing as an Actor...He looks like the Jazz Giant and Don has the unique ability to become "certain" characters he portrays....There are 2 other Kats I'd consider for the role, Michael K. Williams (Played Omar on "The Wire") and cut-throat-singer KC from KC & JoJo....

In all complete honesty...I've NEVER even considered anyone other than Don Cheadle. However, I maybe could have been okay with Michael K. Williams. But KC...

Not even back in his Jodeci heydays!

Don is the perfect choice. I love Michael K. Williams but I think Don would definitely bring it harder in this role. KC shouldn't even be a choice, he's not even an actor!

No I haven't, I may check it out later.

As much as I love the fact that he's doing Miles, I hope he doesn't direct the film, I want him to completely focus on the role and get into the character, that'll end up with him getting an Oscar cuz he deserves that, if he does both (Acting & directing), i'll either be something very unique or be a complete disaster. IMO, I think Bennet Miller can do a great job directing this.

I could be wrong about the directing thing but I thought that's what I heard. I agree that directing and acting in the same film could be too much but if he can pull off both then more power to him. Either that or he could be in the film and also an executive producer instead. If Robert Downey Jr can get an Oscar for Tropic Thunder then surely Don Cheadle is due his props in the movie business by getting an Oscar himself!

There are lots of Entertainers that crossover...Many singers have done great acting work over the years and vice versa...KC might have some acting chops to show off..I'd give'em a screen-test and see what he's got...
