The Artists You Love Don't Give A Damn About You

So when you constantly have to bring up their records, how many hits they have, how great they are, how someones mama ain't sit if they don't like them etc.

They don't care! the bitches have more money then any of us will ever have. So when you argue for hours and hours about your favoriute they don't give a fuck. And if there R.I.P they surely don't give a fuck.

Deal with it...

This could get interesting.

This post is obviusly half troling, half joking. Since nothing else is happening at the org. If y'all get sensitive drink some water and prey to some GOD they might give a fuck lol

When the Monks album was reissued in the 90s, I sent their lead singer Gary Burger a fan letter. He responded with an autographed postcard signed by all five members, and a very nice letter thanking me for reaching out.

About 3 months later, I got another autographed postcard and another nice handwritten note. He said he wasn't sure he'd responded the first time.

That guy gave a damn!

I doubt he followed me on the internet to see what I said about him in message boards though, if that's what you mean.

I know, its just that I feel you so hate people when they BRAG about how their fave sold 1 million units in the first week, or has 13 number ones on the Billboard Hot 100.... Here, I think we only discuss about that, I don't think orgers care much about the value of records (Unless they're MJ fans who stan so hard they can't forget mentioning that Thriller is the best selling album of all time).

I stan for all the artists I talk about srsly, its just that Bruno seems a good contemporary artist to follow since I'm not a music snob and I don't bitch about pop music or think that rock is the only form of good music.

Still haven't seen that. I'll check it out later... It should be classic Guns, right?

It is classic guns, which means that it sucks. But, it sucks in a good way. And the sex was really that good! except days later found out the guy had a tear in his ass confused felt pretty bad about that. I'm taking him to dinner tonight as an apology.

lowkey

i dont think its fair to say none of them care, im sure there are alot of artists that really appreciate their fans. its easy for a fan to show their support for an artist but not so easy for the artist to show their appreciation to millions of fans.

You remember how much I love WAR, right?

I had a good buddy and fellow War-baby who used to own a record shop and knew many artists from the road when he was young. One night WAR was in town during the release of Galaxy, so he called me up around 11pm and told me to get over to the store because the guys were gonna visit.

Well, he may as well have told me that I won the damn lotto! I literally snatched my 2 boys out of bed, called a friend and we hit the road. Those guys jammed right there in the store for an hour and a half, then hung out for another half hour signing autographs and handing out stickers, hats, etc...I tell ya, what a night with a great bunch of guys.

What touched my heart most was that lead guitarist, Howard Scott spent another twenty minutes talking to my son, who was 12 at the time, about the importance of staying focused and on track in life and out of trouble. He didn't have to do that and it made a powerful impression on my son....I'm eternally grateful.

I also have a great personal affection for Joan Jett. When my friend Mia Zapata from the Gits was murdered, Joan was approached to maybe do a benefit show, as they were hiring a private eye to find the killer. She responded by booking an entire tour and making a record with those guys, with Joan singing mostly Mia's songs with an encore of her own greatest hits. She gave them about four months of her professional life. That was really unexpected.

I played a show opening for Joan once and wanted to meet her to say, thanks so much for doing that. When I told her I had known Mia in college and briefly played music with her, Joan instinctively hugged me and said "I'm so sorry for your loss."

She gets two big thumbs up from me.

Artists don't know enough about individual people to care about them on a personal level; as with virtually every human being, the best an artist can do is care for others on an agape-type level. And their work can often reflect that.

I've heard stories about artists who have connected with their audiences on a personal level. Country artists are particularly good at "selling" that quality to their fans. I've personally encountered artists who have shown appreciation for my appreciation for their work. Even this site's Namesake has been known to engage a fan or two on a personal level.

Mathiwn3 is right, though; the work is more important than the level of affection a complete stranger might have for the person who listens to their work.

It's a drag to meet artists whose work you like and you find out that they are total dicks.

But some of them are.

Best thing for a fan is not to get close enough to find out.

Back in the day security wasn't nearly as tight as it now so when we were teens we were able to sneak backstage at a Kool And The Gang concert.

We walked into the backroom and they had tables upon tables of food and soft drinks laid out. When they walked into the room and spotted us we froze because we were sure they would have security throw us out.

They came over and asked the three of us what our names were, offered us some snacks and invited us to have a seat. There was no alcohol being that they were all Muslim. They were perfect gentlemen the entire time...nobody treated us like groupies.

When they were ready to leave they gave each of us a photo autographed by the whole group and sent our young, silly asses home.

A lot of guys would have taken advantage of that situations but they didn't.

Ronald "Kool" Bell is one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet.

i have been lucky enough to meet and hangout with some of my musical hereos, and its no different than any other group of people, some give a damn about you some dont. enough of them are good people though that you shouldnt generalize them that way though. one of the best days of my life was spent at a bbq at the house of the drummer from one of my all time favorite bands, and that day is enough for me to prove your theory wrong.
