i'll just throw out 3 of my faves and see what everyone
else thinks

1.A HARD DAYS NIGHT-beatles. (the one that began the VIDEO
age...unofficially!
2.BEAT STREET
3.JAILhouse rock.

the genious Leonard Bernstein. So beautiful it hurts!

2.Purple Rain..naw U looked great.I´d never gotten into that water.

yes mistermaxx,You are right about SPARKLE. irene cara
was MY girl back then! Phillip Micheal THomas years before
MIAMA VICE!

other ones to throw out for everyone's opinion:

wildstyle-one of the first HIp-jop movies.
the 5 HEArtbeats:well-crafted & researched flick.
the scene where the dude was hung out the window by the
gang lord is based on fact. it happened to the late great
JACKIE WILSon!

and DIRTY Dancing: the story's not a great one...but
the music is used perfectly. LOve the way they used
LOVE IS STRAnge. a badass 50's classic.

Ive never cared much for The Who , but this film is great.
Excellent performances from Eric Clapton,Elton John, Tina Turner and The Who.I'll never forget that scene with Ann-Margret in the white room. What a trip.

Amadeus. The ultimate composer.

Mr. Holland's Opus. The power of music.

Purple Rain. The defining scene for me: When he's breaking everything in the basement and he finds the sheet music.

What's Love Got to Do With It? Tina rocks.

Grace of My Heart. Loosely based on Carol King. About a fictional female songwriter, it follows her career from the 50s to the 70s.

Hilary and Jackie. A little depressing towards the end, but still a great movie about musicians. True story.

The Thing Called Love. Makes country music seem cool. River Phoenix and Samantha Mathis are awesome.

That's all I can think of for now.

My all-time favorite is "THIS IS SPINAL TAP"--no question.
Runners up:

The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Krush Groove
Purple Rain (Natch)
Stop Making Sense
Absolute Beginners (Julien Temple is sooo cool!)
Hedwig and the Angry Inch (SEE THIS, DAMMIT!)
Dancer in the Dark
Chicago (MUCH better than "Moulin Rouge")
Jesus Christ Superstar (Carl Anderson is so good as Judas!)

The Sound of Music (gotta love Julie Andrews a.k.a Mary Poppins)
Grease
A Hard Days Night
Dirty Dancing
Chicago (new fave, and yes it's better than Moulin Rouge)

I also have the Soundtracks...the music makes the movie.
"Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."

VinaBlue, I love it that you mentioned 'Hilary and Jacky'. Ever seen live-recordings of Jacqueline du Pre? That woman is so passionate.

Other favourites :

'The Godfather'

'Bleu' (music by Zbigniew Preisner). Fantastic music and one of my favourite movies

'Gadjo Dilo'

'L'ascenseur pour l'echaffaud' (Miles Davis) Never seen the movie but it must be good...
Same thing with 'In the mood for love'

'Amelie Poulain'

and of course 'Purple Rain' (I think it is a lousy movie but a great concert)

Mine are:
Purple rain and under the cherry moon ,ofcourse.
Beatstreet ,breakdance 1 ,breakdance 2 (electric boogaloo).
Grease , saturday night fever ,dirty dancing and i really liked Amadeus.

When i was younger i once saw a village people movie. I remember i was really puzzled by the end of that film until i later found out that they were homosexual. I just could not understand that ,i was to young maybe. I also used to like those happy Cliff Richard movies.

That sucks... What do you mean exactly by 'stage version'? A live performance? Never heard of it again since I saw it about two years ago...
