Lionel Richie's most recent album, Tuskegee, was his first #1 disc since 1986's Dancing on the Ceiling, and one of the top-selling albums of 2012. What will he do for an encore?

Speaking to Channel News Asia, the veteran performer reveals that he's doing "two albums at the same time right now" -- but they're very different. "I'm working with the world's greatest deejays to re-create some of the music I've already done," he explains. "I'm finishing up my second big album. That's going to be my new material. It's about time to put out some new songs. I am writing them right now."

It has been a while since Lionel released any new material: 2009, to be specific. Tuskegee was made up of new versions of his classic hits, sung as duets with top country music stars. There's no word on a release date for either of these albums.

Meanwhile, Lionel will kick off the North American leg of his All the Hits All Night Long tour May 29 in Vancouver. The 64-year-old singer says he has no plans to slow down when it comes to his touring schedule, either. At the very least, he says it's a great fitness plan.

"I have friends that have gym memberships. After work, they go to the gym and work out for two hours," he tells Channel News Asia. "I can join a gym and work out for two hours…or I can go on a world tour, work out for two hours onstage, get the same effect and get paid! On top of that, I have a great time in each city!”

As for the notion of retirement, Lionel scoffs at that, saying, "'Retirement' comes from the notion that you had a 'job.' 'Retirement' has never been in my vocabulary, because I've never had a 'job.' I've been jobless my whole life," he says with a laugh. "My hobby became my livelihood, which is the best thing you could ever ask for."

He should remix his own stuff though, not remix those duets all over again, i can do without a club mix of Lionel and Kenny Chesney.

I have issues.

I Like Lionel... gulity pleasuere and all. But do we need more crooning songs from him. We know it's going to be mostly ballads, some upbeat one, possibly a dance track, and OMG throwback 80's with an African Tribal chant.

We know every song is going to be on some Barry Manilow crooner mess

Actually Manilow's last studio album in 2011 was far from "crooning" it leaned on the conceptual rock field. A for Lionel he hasnt done good new ballads in a long time, he needs to lose the slick shit, strip it totally down, the last few NEW albums have been Bullshit, neyo produced tracks who the hell needs that from lionel.

I concur. He sounds thankful for the blessings which have filled his life thus far. Good 4 HIM!

Lionel Richie to Receive BET Lifetime Achievement Award
May 23th

Lionel Richie will be the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's BET Awards.

According to the network, the singer is being recognized for his contributions to music culture, which includes more than 100 million albums sold worldwide and five Grammy Awards among his list of accomplishments.

"I am extremely honored to receive the BET Lifetime Achievement Award," said Richie in a statement. "In Black America, it’s the 'BET Awards' where artists receive the highest recognition for their talent from their peers and fans. I am so proud to be included in the extraordinary company of past ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ recipients."

The BET Awards 2014 will broadcast live on Sunday, June 29 at 8 p.m. ET on BET from the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, CA.

Lionel was a winner Wednesday night in Nashville at the CMT Music Awards, honoring the country music genre.

He and country singer Luke Bryan accepted the award for CMT Performance of the Year, for their “Oh No/All Night Long” collaboration from the 2013 CMT Artists of the Year special.

Hate to say this and i KNOW people will not be able to deal with it but THIS is what Mariah needs to inject her dead music right now. Something, its incredible with her catalog of hits and the amount she sold that she cant get shit together, no one can brainstorm shit for her. Lionel's tour is perfect for him, yes its hits, of course, but hes gonna work new shit in, MARIAH needs whoever is doing this for Lionel to do this for her. Revisit your hits Mariah, something, the world really doesnt want to hear you with Rick Ross and miguel and whomever. Dont get me wrong this album has some better songs, but the ideas are the same painting by number things she has been doing, everyone on her team needs to go, Mariah is trying to still be Rihanna and Katy Perry and failing miserably, i mean its really becoming laughable now. ^^I'm not sure what Mariah has to do with Lionel, but I don't picture her making a country album like Lionel or Darius Rucker or Bon Jovi. I don't know if her voice and singing style would work as a country singer. When Whitney did I Will Always Love You, she didn't do it as a country song like the Dolly Parton or John Doe versions. Anyway, Lionel has always done country style songs, even in The Commodores. So it's not that different for him, other than he re-recorded old hits with country singers. It's not as likely that many people would be interested in an album of re-recorded Mariah songs.

Which shows the disconnect she has with her base, its not so much doing a LIONEL and going country, but she needs good people in her corner too many YES people and its not like she is a musician like say Prince and can go out and play what they want on tour and people turn up. Lionel was steered this way pretty much, he followed what alot of people have done. Take Richard Marx people thought this guy was gone, and yet he is one of the most successful songwriters in the last two decades, he has jumped into alot of genres with various artists from Streisand to Luther to Daughtry to Keith Urban and meanwhile still managed to have 2 top 20 AC hits with NO label and promotion and now has a new record that is getting alot of push even though again its all his label. So mariah at this point has to find that "middle ground" a tour is a must, showcase it with hits, "An evening with Mariah" call it, and drop all the BS i got 17 #1's blah blah blah

Some people are not performers or entertainers though. They're just studio singers/bands. Also, there's acts who are more known for concerts than studio records like The Grateful Dead. People collect bootlegs of their shows.

She was last on the road almost 5 years ago, the 7-date Angels Advocate tour. I've read dozens of blog posts from people who had idea she had a new album. The label did her a disservice as it botched the rollout, so a little exposure in the form of a short tour would benefit her.
