Prince vs Ready for the World

I know this old, but it was never really answered... who really wrote the song Oh Sheila? Cuz when I was younger, whenever I heard the song, I always thought it was about Sheila E, and now that I'm older and listen to the words, it really does sound like Prince wrote it nod I found this version of Oh Sheila, with prince singing and it's good, but... was it a cover song or did he actually write the song and just gave it to ready for the world all after all?

And ain't Ready for the world a MPLS band?
One thing I remember about them is the jerry curls lol

Well now, he MIGHTA written a song called "Oh fucking Sheila" but I bet it's probably more autobiographical, and nothing like the song "Oh Sheila".

Just my guess there...

Actually,I found a remix of this song on winmx.com,its got Prince and Sheila mixed into it.
Also,I once read somewhere that the song was about Sheila E.,it said that one of the singers had a crush on her.I can't remember where I read it.

I remember reading that when Sheila E. first heard the song on the radio, she thought it was Prince singing about her!

ZOINKS!!! lol It's funny that you would remember that, fingasnapz!

I NEVER ever thought that Prince had anything to do with that song. If anything, it always seemed to me that the group or the lead singer anyway, was feeling Prince and the whole Minneapolis sound. Guess the closest he could get was a song about a girl named "Sheila." I personally, couldn't help but think it was a reference to Sheila E. Anyway, I think that if the song had been called "Oh, Shaniqua" no one would ever be linking it to Prince. smile

The 1st thing I thought when I 1st heard this song was:

"Damn. This sounds like a
cheap immitation of Prince."

From the prominent synthesizers to the "1999-like" drum machine use, to Melvin "oh, never could I in a million years ever really sound like Prince, but hey, we got a contract, Prince is the hottest thing now, so let's do our little immitition of him & his style of music & milk it for all it's worth!" Riley..

this group was in the right place at the right time, & their "Prince lite" music was, not surprisingly, a big hit.

For about 15 minutes.
I'll see you tonight..

Prince didn't write the Song&Shelia E. thought it was Written by Prince as tribute to Her or something along those lines.but anyway the matter at hand:like how Acts today are pushed into working with the Neptunes,Dr.Dre,Puffy,Darkchild,etc... well back in the day things haven't changed the Record Companys wanted what was happening&wanted Copy-Cat Success&they got it here.these Cats are from Flynt Michigan&were alright for the time period&actually had a little run they put out a few Albums&Melvoin Riley had a little Solo Career.they were catchy more than anything & i got a Greatest Hits on them&they were alright."Long Time Coming" was my Jam by them.

There is a version of Prince singing this song, and the version I have a solo prt with Sheila E playing percussion, that's why I asked the question again... you can find it on Kazaa, it's called the ultimate mix nod

the version you are talking about is the ULTIMIX version. it is ready for the world's "oh sheila" mixed with "too sexy" by sheila e. prince is NOT singing on this track, and has never sung on this track.

$.02.

RFTW was influenced by the MPLS sound 4 sho, but then again at that time who wasn't? RFTW deserve props for busting out of Flint with the hottest, self-produced, self-written and self-performed debut of the 80's. I remember when the album came in my weekly shipment (back in the days when I was in a DJ record pool) They had released two ballads (Deep Inside Your Love and Tonight) on their own Blue Lake label before signing with MCA release so I wasn't expect what I heard when I dropped the neddle on the wax. Digital Display, Human Toy, Oh Sheila, Ceramic Girl, I'm The One Who Loves You! WOW! That album was packed with Jams!
