I agree with what someone said-D has always had heavy hitters in his corner. Big time execs and stars who love the guy, not just as a musician, but as a person. Honestly, I think the only person I ever heard speak badly about D is Angie Stone and I take her word with a grain of salt. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries." |

For someone with no talent, he sure runs rings around any rnb singer out today with his vocals alone. Its shocking the mainstream press hasn't pick this letter up.
The press and consumers do not care about D'Angelo. Musically, Americans have a very short memory and if you are not releasing albums every 2 or 3 years, they forget who you are. And as far as a new album, I don't think there are a lot of labels willing to take a chance on an unreliable, veteran Soul singer with known drug problems. He's a pretty big risk and the sales probably won't be there if something is released. His audience demographic don't buy a lot of music. Young people aren't going to buy his records. So, really, if there is an independant label out there willing to risk it, he will be lucky to move a few thousands copies with little to no promo. Gold and Platinum certifications? Forget it.
I disagree! D'angelo was just the cover story of GQ magazine 2 years ago! He was the groundbreaking artist of the neo soul movement. Lauren Hill only made ONE album (another neo soul artist) & she is STILL talked about till this day! Also what do you mean take a chance on a veteran soul singer? Dangelo is already signed to a deal now!
Also how many artist do you think is on drugs? MANY!!! You just dont know about them, because they weren't caught. Have you ever been to a Hollywood party? DRUGS DRUGS DRUGS!
D'angelo still has a following and with the right promotion. He will be fine! Hardly any artist are selling now. Money for artist like Dangelo comes from touring.
Dangelo has had many near death experiences. But is still here! Give him some credit. Plus get your FACTS straight!! will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. |

Please! We all know drug usage in the music business has always been acceptable. There are not very many artists who haven't been addicted at some point or another. Hell, many times they have management who encourage it! So I do know about drug usage in the music business. It has always been rampant and still is. Many careers have sufferred because of it. Many careers have thrived because of it. If an artist is in the good graces of their label, doing what they are told and are a functioning addict, then they usually don't have problems getting the support from their label. If they are not functioning, out of control and ignoring what they executives are telling them to do, then little promotion and possibly, no album releases. I've heard these stories time and time again from artists who have been in the game way longer than D'Angelo.
The difference between D'Angelo and Lauryn Hill is Lauyrn was a ground-breaker because she won the Grammy for Album of the Year for a disc that was considered mostly Hip-Hop. Although I'm not much of a fan, if she never releases another album, Lauryn will always be revered.
I have always dug D'Angelo. He came along when the industry and consumers were about to put the final nail in R&B's coffin. He was one of the people who said, "Just wait one damn minute! We still got something relevant to say!". So, I want to see him make a strong comeback. But, D'Angelo does not have the same fanbase that Anita Baker and Sade have. These ladies can go YEARS without releasing albums but when they do, they are pretty much guaranted at least a Gold certification and lots of radio exposure. Their old songs are played on the radio CONSTANTLY so people don't forget about them. I can't say the same for D. Only time will tell. But, I am in his corner and I will definately be out there the first day buying my copy if he is ever able to deliver on the promises. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! Do you mean lauryn won for album of the year or record of the year or are they different? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries." |

It won Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards. Not to mention how many times it went Platinum. I don't understand the big deal about the album. But, many consider it a masterpiece. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley
