What are George Michael/Wham's chances of getting in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? After all, Wham's cds and Faith are over 25 years old at this point. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

You can somewhat guess who's more likely to get in by what kind of coverage (or non-coverage) they received in Rolling Stone magazine, since Jann Wenner is one of the people behind both. So, I'd say Wham! not at all, and George maybe, but I doubt it. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

George should be in and Wham should, too. Wham accomplished a lot, had great songs and for a while were the biggest band in the world. And George should be a shoo in. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Sales and popularity is not a criteria for getting in, it's who the voters like. If that was the case, Chicago & Journey would be in and Percy Sledge wouldn't. How popular was Percy? To Rolling Stone, Wham! and George are bubblegum teenybopper acts, and Wenner has never really been friendly to that. Tears For Fears have a better chance than Wham! and they're unlikely too. Anyway, in the US, Wham! is mostly known for Make It Big. The first album wasn't a hit. I'd say his chances are significantly better than The Nolans of getting inducted.

George Michael possibly but his work was too spotty, but he was iconic, WHAM no way, i would be totally shocked if they even got on the ballot. It's getting to the bottom of the barrel time now for the RRHOF. Less R&R, more fame. From the UK I'd put Duran Duran and Adam & The Ants in before Wham! anyday. I'd put George in solo though.
What second string shit are they going to put in now they've done pretty much all the true greats? There's not really many influential/original acts from 25 years ago.

Micky's right, the kind of people that vote for the HOF are not, demographically, big GM fans. But sooner or later they are going to need to go back and start naming people who have been historically overlooked, just to have enough famous names to justify an HBO broadcast and a fancy dinner event. So he may get in around the class of 2037, along side Limp Bizkit, MC Hammer, and Imagine Dragons.

As a solo artist George should definitely be inducted, not sure about Wham! though, but they did have some good catchy songs.

Personally I, think the Commodores/ Ohio Players, and Roger & Zapp should be in. Lionel probably will, but is not many funks bands in there so, who knows.

Definitely agree with Roger being inducted, but unfortunately for some reason it seems unlikely because I think there's bias in terms of popularity and names which are more familiar to the mainstream. But as Roger Troutmann was a producer/song writer/artist and also how he influenced aspects of hip hop music & popularised use of the talkbox I would like to see him inducted and he definitely deserves to be. I do think Lionel will be inducted in the near future, and I'd also like to see more funk/R&B artists being inducted.

I think George Michael is a lock as a solo artist, but I doubt Wham! will get in.

Lionel probably would have a tough time getting in, as he could be considered adult contemporary and that's another genre Rolling Stone was not particularly fond of. I don't think funk got a lot of attention in RS. As far as R&B goes, there seems to be more of an emphasis on 1960's and earlier acts, particularly Motown. That fits in with the blues and R&B performers that influenced the 1960's and early 1970's rock that the "baby boomers" who started Rolling Stone liked. There's very few that debuted in 1970 or after, probably around 5. Even The Jackson 5's first album came out in 1969. In recent years, rap has been focused on. A big NO to Wham getting in. I'm okay with George Michael getting in. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I think Wham! & George Michael will have a fall better chance making it in the UK's R&RHOF than the USA's.

George'll get in after he dies. Then you'll hear them saying crap about how they all though he should have always gotten in
