Jennifer Lopez to Receive Icon Award and Perform at BBMAs

</body>

dick clark productions and Billboard announced today that international music superstar Jennifer Lopez will be honored with the prestigious Icon Award at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. The show will broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 18, on ABC at 8pm ET.

The Icon Award is a lifetime achievement award and the ultimate honor. Jennifer is the 4th artist and the first woman, in the four years of its existence, to receive the award for their remarkable and enduring contribution to popular music. Past winners include Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder, and Prince.

“Jennifer Lopez is one of the most iconic performers of her generation,” said Larry Klein producer of the Billboard Music Awards. “We are thrilled to honor her historic career with the 2014 Icon Award and will be on the edge of our seats like everyone else when she takes the stage.”

Lopez will also take the stage with one of the night’s finalists, Pitbull (Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Song), to debut the official anthem of this year’s FIFA World Cup, “We Are One (Ole Ola).” Closing her performance, Lopez will have another debut performance of her single, “First Love,” off her 10th album entitled “AKA”, which is set for release on June 17.

They join a lineup up of previously announced performers that include 5 Seconds of Summer, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Derulo, Imagine Dragons, Luke Bryan, John Legend and OneRepublic.

The 2014 Billboard Music Awards is produced by dick clark productions. Allen Shapiro and Mike Mahan are Executive Producers. Larry Klein, Barry Adelman and Mark Bracco are Producers.

lol lol

These awards always choose the same boring AND predictable Top 40 artists to perform. Why not get some soul or neo soul artists? Even back in the day they had a good mixture of performers from each of the genres at these award shows.

The saddest thing is that Jennifer is an extremely talented actress. She COULD have been a film icon - she came on the scene at a time when America was rapidly moving "latino" demographically. She COULD have been a true ARTIST in the realm of film and been deserving of the title "legend." Timing is everything, and man, her timing was PERFECT. But NO. She made that absolutely horrid "Waiting for Tonight" and that travesty/joke "On the Six." It's like she is completely BRAINLESS. Like I'm not saying that to insult her, I mean from an anatomy/physiology perspective, she must literally not have a brain. She had Hollywood by the DICK. She could have been someone like Bette Davis - true Hollywood royalty - only much better looking and darker. She could have brought back and embodied all the glamour of old Hollywood but in a Latin way and become a living institution, but NO. She robbed the nation of THAT and decided to become some COMPLETELY CLUELESS TALENTLESS WANNABE HIP-HOP BIMBO. And you know what the REALLY sad thing is? She truly cannot glean the difference between what she is and what she could have been. She thinks she IS what she could have been. It truly boggles the mind.

the only problem with this is that her films (most of them) stunk, whether she chose the films or was guided to them, whatever, you need to do good films and be with good writers and also strong casts to shine through, she rarely has had any of these things. She is an entertainer, she is an OK actress, but again we will never know because 90% of her films were bad.

"Selena" and "Out of Sight" were both within one year of each around 1998. She was FABULOUS in both (as an actress, not just to look at.) 1999 was when she got the idea she had something to contribute to the nation's musical canon, basically squandering the substantial capital those two films garnered her in Hollywood. I don't dispute she made some bad films after that. She made a HELL of a good start - she should have gotten an Oscar for "Selena." The way she roared out of the gate gave the impression that she knew what the hell she was doing. But Madonna she is not. Alas, Jennifer has no vision.

Had it not been for "Selena" she would have never been a mega star, in any genre, she never would have been given the reign of opportunity she got after that. Out of Sight i thought was ok, things like "the money train" she got that cause Rosie Perez had fallen off. Her best work was in "My Family" which was prior to selena or any talk of her being a star, that film was great, well written, and included Jimmy Smitts and great other latin actors actresses, this is the route she should have stuck with. But 90% of her films, poor, performance wise and quality of scripts.
