Last August, TMZ leaked e-mails sent from Jack White to his ex-wife Karen Elson that showcased his dislike for fellow retro rock revivalists the Black Keys. The Keys fired back at White in a recent interview with Rolling Stone.

Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney says White "obviously sounds like an asshole," though he admits, "I actually feel embarrassed for him… I don't hold grudges, man. I really don't. We've all said fucked up shit in private, and divorce is hard."

In the publicized e-mails, White accuses the Black Keys of copying his style and speaks about trying to have his children removed from classes with the children of Keys' guitarist/vocalist Dan Auerbach. White writes, "That's a possible twelve fucking years I'm going to have to be sitting in kids chairs next to that asshole with other people trying to lump us in together. He gets yet another free reign to follow me around and copy me and push himself into my world."

"I don't know him, so it's extra-unexpected," Auerbach says, admitting that the vitriol "doesn't register" to him because the statements were made in private. "Like, TMZ? Honestly, they should be fucking ashamed of themselves, that they make a living dragging poor souls that have nothing, that aren't famous, into this world."

After getting married in 2005, White and Elson divorced in 2011. The musician/model filed a restraining order against her husband due to alleged harassment from White. "Wife fears for her and the children’s safety as a result of this harassment," Nashville City Paper reports. "This pattern of husband’s bullying wife into submission was a contributing factor in the demise of their marriage."

The report says White "berated Elson" for attending the wedding of a rival musician and also insisted she contact their children's' school to have daughter Scarlett and son Henry Lee removed from classes with the children of a rival musician.

White since denied these claims and says Elson went back on a verbal agreement to settle the divorce without mediation.

Auerbach, too, has endured a messy divorce. In Feb. of 2013, he announced his divorce from estranged wife Stephanie Gonis after she tried to commit suicide in front of their daughter.

Lately, the Black Keys reignited their feud with Justin Bieber and announced their competition with Michael Jackson's posthumous album for the top spot in this week's Billboard 200.
