The Full Text of Glenn Frey’s Speech Inducting Linda Ronstadt into the Rock and Roll Hall of FameLarry Busacca, Getty Images
Due to her battle with Parkinson’s disease, Linda Ronstadt was unable to attend her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. However, her old friend Glenn Frey of the Eagles was at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to deliver an induction speech and accept on her behalf. The full transcript can be found below. After a montage that combined her interview footage, testimonials from admirers and many of her hits, Frey took to the stage to talk about how he first met Ronstadt. Then he described her work, first as a country-rock pioneer, then as a chart-topping rock star in the ’70s, and finally a breakdown of the many musical roads down which she traveled in the ’80s and beyond. Calling her “a shining example and a true inspiration to every woman who ever stood in front of a microphone and sang her heart out,” Frey closed by singling out how she “shared her voice with beauty, grace and love.”

KISS were inducted by superfan and devotee Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave) . Kiss Chris Martin of Coldplay, not wearing a wedding ring, introduced Peter Gabriel with a biblical Genesis joke that didn't go over well. “Music should come with a health warning: it can be so dangerous; it can make you feel so connected, and can make you think the world could and should be a much better place,” said Peter Gabriel. “And it can occasionally make you very, very happy.” . Art Garfunkle inducted singer-songwriter Cat Stevens with a speech that was affectionate and lyrical. . Stevens took the stage with an acoustic guitar, joined by Waddy Wachtel, for a moving performance of “Father and Son.” Glenn Inducts Linda Ronstant, the only woman inducted this year Sheryl Crow, left, Carrie Underwood, Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris and Glenn Frey perform a tribute to inductee Linda Ronstadt. . . Bruce Springsteen inducts E. Street Band. Long speeches. . Ahmir “Questlove” Jenkins from the Roots represented Philadephia soul with his induction of Hall & Oates. Hall & Oates became the first Philadelphia-born band to join the Hall of Fame.
Courtney Love, Kurt Cobain’s wife, embraced Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic and drummer Dave Grohl, adding, “I just wish Kurt was here to feel this.” Dave Grohl and the surviving Nirvana members played a raucous 25-minute set. Joan Jett played the Kurt Cobain part for a raging rendition of “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Kim Gordan Lorde

From everyone that i heard from that attended, this was the best show (performances wise) in ages. I heard nothing but raves about Hall and Oates which does not shock me cause i saw them recently and they are better than ever, and obviously we know the Nirvana performance would be strong Joan Jett is doing it better than ever, and obviously Dave Grohl has been the most active guy in Rock pretty much. Very Cool of Dave to mention he was NOT the original choice for that band by far. I never really realize that him and Kurt werent that "close" not that they werent getting along, but Dave was pretty much "broughtin" to Nirvana. I heard great stuff about Glen Frey, very emotional knowing that Linda is hit with that horrible disease, and cannot perform anymore. Kiss i was shocked really didnt do anything dumb, but they still shoulda played, for the "fans" thats what kept that band alive. Not that it matters but I don't think I really realized the wide height gap between Daryl Hall and John Oates...either Daryl Hall is 6'5" or John Oates is 5'2" Either way I know they gave a great performance and can't wait to see it when it airs. Both Daryl and John have always looked great (hard to believe that they are in their mid-60's!!!!) but my goodness, John is looking the best I've ever seen him. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I saw Darryl in person last year I think when he was promoting his Solo CD and he does not look 60's all all. Looking forward to the show more than ever May 31st can't get here quick enough. I just remembered, wow I saw him in the 80's when he had his 1st. solo album. It was a video shoot. I gotta look for the video and see if me and a friend were in it. it's great how the four original members of Kiss managed things; with the possible exception of Peter Criss it was obvious that they HATE the RnR and everything it represents, but somehow they turned things around, making it look like "we and all our fans against them"; it was great hearing Gene mentioning the "other" members of Kisstory (the two Erics, Vinnie, Mark, Bruce and Tommy)

They are running very low on newer acts so you will start to see ALOT that have been overlooked getting in, like Chicago, who never made the ballot, also Bad Company, these guys wrote anthems and Paul Rodgers is regarded as one of the best "rock voices" and yet not in not even balloted yet. I think Joan Jett will go in soon, Bon Jovi possibly. From the 90's expect Pearl Jam and the Foo Fighters going in first ballot.
