Just a tribute to 'Heavy Weather', the classic 1977 Jazz/Fusion album by Weather Report, led by Saxophonist Wayne Shorter and Keyboardist Joe Zawinul. This was the group's eighth album. Jaco Pastorius had arrived as the new Bassist on their previous album, 'Black Market' (1976), but this was his first full album with the group, and definitely made his stamp here with his fluid, moaning fretless bass (and on bass playing in general!). This would be the most commercially successful of all their albums--- probably their most accessible record, yet also one of their most artistically successful as well. The opening track, Joe Zawinul's composition 'Birdland' would go on to be covered by a number of artists, most notably by Manhattan Transfer two years later.....
