Speaking of FTG, they have a great sale going on right now on most of their titles. Most are listed between $3.99 and $6.99 (including some very recent reissues). "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

that Tabu box set looks impressive! I'm not familiar with many of those songs, though.
I wish they would do something like that for Solar Records.

another Evelyn Champagne King compilation? I already have this one and it's perfect
I wonder why neither of these compilations contain her 1988 hits "Flirt" and "Hold On To What You Got".I know those songs are on another label, but couldn't they have got the license to use them?

there was a nice Solar 6 CD Box set released in the late 80ees, but yeah, a reissue and some remasters would be welcome Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

"Flirt" was recorded on the EMI label. EMI is owned by Universal Music. Nuff said. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Speaking of her EMI output, was her "Girl Next Door" CD really THAT BAD? I'm just curious. Thanks! Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

Hey, buddy! The first disc seems 2 be comprised of lesser known acts who were signed 2 the label. If I'm not mistaken, a couple of 'em are in the Smooth Jazz format. They also seemed 2 have left off a band by the name of R.O.A.R. who were also signed in the mid-Eighties. Other than Brainstorm and the Jam & Lewis stuff, I can't recall any artists that made any significant contribution to R&B. :-O Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

No, "The Girl Next Door" is a pretty good album, better than some of her other titles. EMI was going through personnel changes at the time and Evelyn was dealing with the death of her daughter so neither she nor the label were able to properly promote the album. Therefore, it bombed. And you know R&B was going thru significant changes at that time and a lot of veteran artists from the 70's and 80s just got lost in the shuffle and were being tossed aside for younger, more contemporary artists. She just wasn't able to keep up with the Janet's and Paula's of that era. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Hey, Kit! Thanks! Maybe it'll see a complete remaster/reissue along with "Flirt." We can only hope. Also, what's up with the Mary Davis "Steppin' Out" CD on Tabu? It never came out. Just "Separate Ways." Her unreleased album ("Steppin' Out") remains an R&B mystery! LOL! Take care and thanks! Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

In 1983, the time was definitely right for Marilyn McCoo to release her first solo album. After two decades of recording success and multiple Grammy Awards with the Fifth Dimension and with her husband Billy Davis, Jr., her star had ascended even higher with her role as host of the long-running hit TV music show Solid Gold; naming the album after the show and leading off with an homage song to the show were obvious commercial choices. But what made the album really engrossing from an artistic standpoint was Marilyn’s interpretations of some of the ’80s biggest and best hits that were being featured on the show, like the Police’s “Every Breath You Take,” Hall & Oates’ “One on One,” Culture Club’s “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya” and a medley of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance.” Our Real Gone Expanded Edition includes an unreleased bonus track, “Relationship.” Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. Grace Jones‘ 1981 album Nightclubbing will be issued as a two-CD deluxe edition in April 2014.
This deluxe reissue sees Nightclubbing remastered for the first time with the bonus CD bringing together a large number of remixes, as well as offering two previously unreleased tracks (including a cover of the Gary Numan/Tubeway Army track Me! I Disconnect From You.
No fewer than six versions of Pull Up To The Bumper can be found in this new double disc set including the 1985 remix, the rare 1981 ‘Party Version’, and Peanut Butter, an instrumental version of the song.
A two-LP gatefold heavyweight vinyl record will also be issued, with the second LP including six remixes (as well as the two unreleased tracks). The good news is that Universal appear to have ticked all the boxes with this release. The double LP comes with a digital download, and there will be a physical hi-res option with a Pure Audio blu-ray audio edition that contains all 22 tracks found on the two-CD deluxe version.
