Akon On Lady GaGa’s Career: “There Was Nowhere Left To Go But Down”

lady gaga g.u.y. that grape juice1 Akon On Lady GaGas Career: There Was Nowhere Left To Go But Down

When she hit the scene in 2008, Lady GaGa credited ‘Lonely’ singer Akon for being instrumental in her rise from underground artiste to chart-scorching debutante.

Joined at the hip during the promotional campaign for her debut album ‘The Fame‘ and its lead single ‘Just Dance’, the years that followed saw the ‘Konvict‘ creator fade into this distance as the ‘Paparazzi’ singer became the global force we now know her to be today.

This week, Akon has detailed the demise of their business relationship, explaining why he ‘sold his share’ once he believed she had peaked.

Cold words below…

Hit the 3 minute mark

Actually I cashed out. I got out while the gooding was hot. It’s like a business, you build it to sell it. When I got it to the peak of where I felt it couldn’t go nowhere, and there was nowhere left to go but down, I cashed out, in other words I sold my share and got out before it was too late.”

Well, it may seem harsh. But he's right to do what he did honestly. Akon is a business man more than an ''artist''

When her and her team spent 25 million big ones on her project. It was bound to fail, no artist can make that back. I don't care if it's a new Adele double album, a Prince and Madonna collab album, or Paul & Ringo making a band with Imagine Dragons. No artist can make back 25 million bucks of promotion eek since i work in the entertainment industry... and heard how everything works. I learned there's more to it then i ever could have imagined.

Every single billboard, commercial, bus, Radio AD etc. Have to be paid back with interest. And at this point we know they can't do that with her album. I Don't blame him at all for cashing out early. It was a pretty smart idea actually.

This was actually a pretty decent interview. At 16:00 he talks about rappers always trying to be flashy. And how it's not necessary.

The thing is, Akon didn't discover Gaga, he didn't have any particular influence over her music and style, the label had him co-sign her because he was hot at that time. It's not as if "Just Dance" is a completely different song without his very minor contributions. It was all just a PR stunt, like how Motown pretended that Diana Ross discovered the Jackson 5 when she didn't.

I liked gaga when she first came out. She didn't seem to take herself so seriously. She just made fun pop music. Now I don't know what the fuck she's doing. I really thought she would have longevity but I'm not sure she'll last 5 more years.

Of course he has the right to sell his share, don´t know why he feels the need to kick her in the back though.

i dont think he kicking her in the back or anything other than plan business gaga is not the shit no more people arent really in2 her anymore.she is still young in her career a few bad records doesnt mean its over. look at beyonce people treat her like a queen and solo wise she really dont do big numbers.the way people worship beyonce u would think she selling 20 million a record but she barely do 2 million

Wow AKON words of reality, NO KIDDING! Anyone that goes up comes down, is he fucking serious, and if he considers himself MUSIC he is so fucking full of it, "I sold my share" your a business man not a musician, you lucked into the gig made your coin and cashed in. He is a nobody now, and overall in music history he is less than no one. He got lucky when shit like Tpain and Flo-rida were making money he joined the parade, but now thats not even making money now. As for GaGa, no kidding but it more about what you do with it, not falling down, everyone peaks, PRINCE peaked with Purple Rain, but i think we can say that he stayed pretty much an artist all the way through not giving a shit where and what his records sold, AKON is a bean counter, big difference. AKON shouldnt speak on anyones career or music till he gets his own.

Akon has been around, he even appeared on the Fugees album "The Score". He hit it big with that first album (which was pretty hot) and rode that train as long as he could. Ain't mad at him.

I agree. He seems really full of himself here. Why is he speaking on Gaga's career? There must not be no such thing as "friends" in the music world because artists have no problem with throwing each other under the bus.

I seemed to have missed when she spoke at SXSW earlier this month.

I find her thoughts on music way more genuine and inspiring than Akon's fucking rolleyes business portfolio. flipped off

shouldn't he be more concerned with his own fading career? lol yes,LadyGaga is having problems but I don't see Akon topping the charts these days, either

^ Topping the charts dont make you any money these days. Akon was smart to move on. He saw caca going the spokeperson route and figured that it would turn off people and he was right. No one wants to be preached too, especially tweens and teens.

Gay youth may love her but the majority of teens just want to have fun n caca is no longer fun.

Akon is arguably the worst musical 'artist' of this or any era, but not without business sense, I guess. He was quick to join pop's race to the bottom, which means deliberately creating music so bad you can't possibly forget it. Today, that's everything in the Top 40. Well done.

.

And yet, RedOne has continued to collaborate with and produce for Gaga after The Fame. Sounds to me a certain someone's a bit pissy about not being able to evolve with an audience that's gotten bored of autotune overuse and faux swagger.

.

Maybe ArtPop had a lukewarm reception and maye rightfully so. Maybe it's a slow burner that will be appreciated a bit more over time (Hey! I liked it!) But I sincerely doubt that Gaga is going to fade away anytime soon.
