Mike + The Mechanics ~ Taken In {12" Extended Version}

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Love this song always did, has that ALan Parsons Project feel it with the "air" in the sound and vocals

I liked this song too. But I always find it odd that people claim Phil Collins turned Genesis pop, when The Mechanics was more soft rock/adult contemporary from the get go. And Tony Banks was doing film scores & soundtracks, nothing prog about that. razz

Phil gets blamed for everything but im sure no one is complaining about the checks still coming in for the songs that topped the charts, the same can be said of Journey, they can bad mouth Steve Perry up and down now all they want and say he was difficult but where was the gripe when "Open Arms" and the other zillion hits they had were coming out. Phil will always be the whipping boy of critics and fellow musicians

Critics don't buy records. What does it matter what they think?

They tend to praise obscure acts that don't sell much and trash music that is really popular. Light rock and adult contemporary is not cool to them and it tends to have a large female audience, so not macho.

I think it's kind of forgotten. It doesn't get the broadcast that Silent Running still gets.
