Flyte Tyme Documentary

Hi guys, does anyone know where I can get the full documentary on Flyte Tyme? Like many folks here; I'm a big admirer of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis' production. So far, I've only seen a short clip on Youtube and the google results consist of the same short clip. Was it ever shown on t.v.? Thanks in advance for any help.

As far as I know, it only came with the version of the Condensate CD that was sold at Best Buy. I have it. You can see if Best Buy still has any copies or find someone who is selling a used copy. I don't think it was shown on TV, but I think it was shown at a Grammy meet & greet that the group appeared at.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Are you talking about that thing where Terry Lewis is talking about Tender Love by the Force MDs? If so, what I posted above is not it. I don't know where that is from.

I don't think it's the same thing. The documentary is specifically based around Flyte Tyme and Jimmy and Terry's work and not only focused on The Time (and the Original 7ven). On another note, is the dvd that comes with Condensate any good?

That was an extra on the Krush Groove DVD because "Tender Love" was the movie's love theme. I have never seen a full documentary on the duo.

It lasts about 90 minutes and basically the guys talking about how the group get started and some other stories, including what they were doing before The Time. They mention about how Alexander O'Neal was let go and that Morris didn't want to sing at first, just wanted to be the drummer. There are some stories that some may know already like the big food fight with The Revolution and that they were the backup band for Vanity 6. I found the Monte Moir parts interesting, because he generally doesn't say much in other group interviews and is not really seen in the media. But he still says less than the others here too.

.

There was an interview (not on the DVD) that was on a news program with Morris, Jesse, Jimmy, & Jerome after Condensate was released where one of the things they talk about is going on a tour with Zapp in the 1980s and how Larry Troutman held a gun on Morris, Jesse, & Jerome in a dressing room.

Sounds interesting, I think I'll check that out the deluxe cd/dvd version of Condensate. As regards Zapp; considering the circumstances of Roger's tragic murder; it does seem that Zapp were one of the wilder funk bands of the era. Thanks for the info.

I found a video of the actual news broadcast here, but haven't had any luck in finding the full video which lasts around 45 minutes and doesn't have the music video clips or shows the newscasters at the beginning. The news website it was originally on has taken both the short and long versions down. I also found around half of the DVD documentary here.

Thanks for the links: I'll have another look on Joe Brandmeier's site to see if I can get my hands on the Flyte Tyme doc.

Maybe it was never broadcast. Performers film stuff all the time and don't use it.

I'm beginning to suspect that may be the case. They might have originally planned to release it and then held it back.
