The Dreaming has always been my favourite Kate Bush album.

So many amazing, barmy and unique songs, Get Out Of My House, All The Love, Pull Out The Pin, Leave It Open.... hell, the whole album is fucking genius.

I forgot how much I loved it until writing this post. I must put it on my iPod later today....

It's my favourite too, together with The Sensual World. As much as I like Hounds Of Love, I prefer the other two.

er

I just listened to this LP the other day. It's a bit crazy, both the sound and the songwriting with rebels who need mummy, Houdini, concierges. Yeah. I like my musicians crazy! nuts nutso But I think Hounds and Sensual World are better. I like The Red Shoes too btw. I started listening to Kate because Prince is on that record.

I love it too, much more than what the critics usually say. "Moments Of Pleasure" must be one of the most poignant songs ever written.

Yeah, yeah...'Pull Out The Pin'.

.

...but on an album where just about every track is a classic, would've like to have known if there are any particular elements within this song that stand out to Gunsnhalen. Lyrics have a poignancy, obviously.

I had an obsession with the Vietnam war. It was a very... unnecessary war to say the last. And, the violence and turmoil from it interested me. There's really an American song about the Vietcong side of the story. Kate, being a British artist. Surprised me with the fact she wrote a song like this.

I just got into Kate Bush half a year ago. Stil getting into all her records cool

Ah...it's the lyrics you like then...

.

What a joy that's gonna be for you...'getting into her records', only now...gotta contain myself and not suggest or recommend anything...just let you experience your own self-pleasure, lol...

btw...be careful with your obsessions.

When you come across her song "In The Warm Room', well, remember funkyandy can play that.(It's easy enough to play though).

Kate later called this her "I'm very angry" album because she had a big argument with the record company about producing it herself. The Dreaming wasn't a big hit and she did't get to say "told you so" until Hounds of Love 3 years later.

I'm still shocked kate only 2 hits in the US. Runnin Up That Hill & Don't Give Up with Peter. And they were minor hits... amazing how she never got big in the US.

She also had something to say about that. Running Up That Hill was about "a deal with God" and that to American radio was like omfg no no no! Prince also talked about that in the Chris Rock interview in 1996. You can't say "God" on the radio, so "Let's Go Crazy" became "God" and "the elevator that bring us down"=Satan. Listening to the song from that perspective, it makes a lot of sense.

Such imagination, so many unique sounds. Kate at her best was so different to anyone else...an amazing voice, beauty, musical ingenuity and she maintained her dignity throughout. A true artist in every sense and no female will ever eclipse her in my opinion. I like how the album notes implore you to play the album loud! I can recall when it came out (though I was only ten). People were asking where Kate had gone for the last three years...this wasn't the record anyone was expecting. Unbridled genius that was to carry on until The Sensual World.

I know I'm on the minority here, but I think the genius has remained quite unbridled until now. Red Shoes, Aerial and 50 Words For Snow can be placed side by side with the "classic" albums, that's how I see it.

50 Words for snow was a very unique piece. It took time to digest... much like her other albums. She really is a great artitst after all these years.

Hmm..huge confession. Director's Cut underwhelmed me.

As a result, I wasn't hyped for Snow, although of course I bought it on day of release.

I lay in bed before going to sleep and put it on via headphones.. I feel asleep since the opening piano tinkling went on for ages then Bertie started his vocals and it just was so soporific that I drifted off. I've not played it since.

If anyone had said that to me in 1989 I'd have laughed in your face. Call myself a huge Kate fan? Hmm.. Maybe this says more about my patience for music these days than it does about Kate's new music. Maybe a bit of both. I've lost my Tori excitement too, so yeah it's probably me.

Sell Snow to me if you wish, however. I'd love to enjoy it.

There must be a reason, why so many of us...after being exhilarated by Kate's music for so many years...became underwhelmed from The Sensual World onwards...so no Scotsman1999, it's not just you.

.

It's almost as if her albums / music from then on showed snippets...flashes of her former 'greatness'...but never the whole again...it's intangible, cannot identify the reason...

.

All of her albums prior to The Sensual World, generally didn't need to 'grow' on you...

I Quite liked what i heard on Red Shoe Diaries. I haven't heard all of it yet... but the singles are great songs.

Also, on another note. Has anyone listened to The Dreaming, along with Peter Gabriel 4: Security? they compliment each other very well.

It could be a generational thing...the way relatively young people like yourself perceive music...without the benefit and history of growing up with her (Kate) in her heyday.

.

(Pretty sure that sentence was incoherent).

.

Absolutely it complements Gabriel's 4...yeah, he's another one who can create this emotive music, exhilarating sounds...when he's on his 'A' game.

I am so sorry but The Dreaming is my least fave Kate Bush record. Least fave of the classics that is, up til 1993's The Red Shoes:

I am in love with the first 2, The Kick Inside and Lionheart...... also Never Forever, brilliant music. heart music

Her masterpiece is of course Hounds Of Love, then came The Whole Story - the compilation and The Sensual World later, I am deeply in love with all of those as well. worship

But.... The Dreaming, I don't know why but I can't get into this album.

The Red Shoes have some great cuts, but isn't a great album... I don't like what came after this album (Red Shoes).

Aerial and the re-make album Director's Cut, it's difficult to hear this is the same and genius artist.

Aerial / Director's Cut are kind of boring, those are like Prince's Emancipation album to me. ok but very hard to really like.

Before some attacks, rolling eyes etc is happening now...: I wanna tell you that I have the cd The Dreaming, and I have tried my best, it did not catch me, like most of her other albums did.

My fave Kate Bush Albums:

1. Hounds Of Love
2. The Whole Story, compilation
3. The Sensual World
4. The Kick Inside / Lionheart (Lionheart was my first Kate Bush album, Kick is maybe better? I love these equally)
5. Never For Ever
6. The Red Shoes
7. The Dreaming, (maybe a little harsh to put it last on my list?)

That's fair enough...some of us agree, actually.

Did, 'Sat in your lap', 'Suspended in Gaffa' or 'Houdini'...move you at all though?

First 3 albums = don't disturb.
