from the very start i never bought singles, only albums.
it wasn't until i owned about 10 albums (could affor one album every 2 to 3 months only) did i start to look into singles. mainly for non album bsides since i was pretty much a completist from the get go
my first couple of albums that i owned (and still love to this very day):
* Prince - Lovesexy [first album I ever bought] * Prince - Purple Rain * Pet Shop Boys - Actually * Pet Shop Boys - Introspective * Eurythmics - Revenge * Eurythmics - Savage * Madonna - Madonna * Neneh Cherry - Raw Like Sushi * Paula Abdul - Forever Your Girl [don't own this one anymore ]
so all in all, a pretty gay collection right there

You mean the first albums we bought? Mine was Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent d'Arby. Can't remember the second. I liked George Michael Jackson back then, but not anymore. And Terry made me discover James Brown. [Edited 2/14/14 4:28am]

I remember the very first time I bought an album, where I'm coming from there were no record stores for american music, and me growing up with that I was so desperate for finding a record store and buy the music I like, it was in 2002, in Melbourne, I entered a store and was amazed by everything, I was surprised by how many great music I finally found, I had to choose only 3 records, so I picked Bad, The Times are a-changing and The Freewhelin Bob Dylan, I was little so my uncle chose the two Bob records (I never listened to them untill I was 17), and I handpicked Bad... just like that .

The first album I bought was a double 8 track set. The Beatles White Album. Bought it at Hess's of Allentown. Now Hess's, The Beatles and 8 tracks are all gone.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I guess owned sounds better. I only said liked because I didn't own these records, they were my dad's that I used to listen to over and over again. Us kids had a children's type phonograph and I used to take it to my room and listen to them there.
