This HAS to be the weirdest frontman right now

Apologies if this has been posted before, but I recently saw a performance on Youtube from a band called Future Islands from a recent David Letterman show, and I have to say the frontman of this band, has some of the strangest moves I've seen from a frontman, at least in this era, and his vocal stylings are ..umm..... special, especially towards the end of the song.

So what do ya think? Is this an underrated eccentric genius or is he taking the piss out of us all?

Wow that was like Gollum fronting a band. Lord have mercy. That was insane. WTH?!! I was amused and scared at the same time.

I never would have given this band the time of day if this video hadn't been posted here. I have respect for the singers unique style visualy and vocally. He really has his own thing going on and now Imay actually get the album when it drops. I heard snippets of the album last night and it's actually quite good. They're getting rave reviews as well. This is why I love the org!

Reminds me of that Early 80's New Wave-ish Pop that presented then. Flock of Seagulls, Spandau Ballet, Depeche Mode, etc...Didn't like it then. Don't think much of it now either. sad

Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

It definitely has that vibe which is why I'm interested in them now. Also, the singer of Joy Division had some odd dance moves as well. This guy is bringing back the 80s on many levels.

I gave it the gong at 1:18. I tried, really did. But the guy's moves reminded me of Ed Grimley too much (I must say).

I never thought I'd hear death metal vocals in a pop song.

I bought `Seasons` yesterday, maybe buying the Singles album. It sounds really good, there is no hardrock scream on the single version of Seasons though, like the live version.

I actually enjoyed that performance. But not enough to make me buy it. I like his voice and I dig his moves. But he is in the wrong band. He has a metronome drummer, the kid from next door's mom on bass, and the weird uncle from the family reunion that is not allowed to babysit on Casio keyboard. As simple as that damn song is they should manage to look up from their instruments once in a while. It would be interesting to see him front a different band.

It's too bad he doesn't do the death metal growl on the recoreded version. It would have been interesting. I think this band is an aquired taste. Either you really appreciate it or you're like WTF?? lol. I actually had both reactions after seeing this video. The latter first, and now the former. I just appreciate he's trying to dosomething different. Music is in such a rut right now.

Oh, Sho 'NUFF! By the "moves" aLONE, brothaman's gonna do well, me thinks! I just never got into the male 80's singers. I always followed the women more like Dale Bozzio (Missing Persons) and Martha Davis (The Motels.) smile

I know right? I'm hooked too now. Last year my fave new band wasHaim, now I think this year it's Future Island thanks to Purple Hippie. It seems that performance on Letterman has done wonders for their career in avery short amount of time. Maybe they'll even do SNL. That would be great! cool

I've seen worse. He's got that retro 70s sound that's popular now and the awkward white-man stomp to go with it. Could be a big hit.

He honestly wasn't that weird. I've seen worse. He didn't sound bad, just overdoing it to sell the song and be different.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Yeah I think he was just almost exagerating in his body language and vocals to get his point across and really grab people's attention. I must say, it certainly worked. The recorded version of the song showcases a smoother vocal. The songs are actually very good.
