Bruno Mars Scores Most-Watched Super Bowl Halftime Show Ever

Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers Perform at Super Bowl XLVIII on Feb. 2, 2014 in New Jersey

Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' performance attracted the largest audience in the history of Super Bowls, attracting 115.3 million viewers, Fox announced Monday, citing Nielsen data.

That figure surpasses the prior record of 114.0 million set by Madonna two years ago and the 110.8 million who tuned in to see Beyonce last year.

Mars sang "Give it Away" with the Peppers, executed James Brown dance moves and Police riffs and closed with his hit ballad "Just the Way You Are" at halftime of a blowout won by the Seattle Seahawks, 43-8. The game had an average viewing audience of 111.5 million viewers, the largest in history.

The final number was significantly higher than than 98.88 million viewers reported in the overnight ratings from Nielsen that measure the top 56 markets. It initially appeared Super Bowl XLVIII would be the fifth most-watched in history.

The one musician who may well have received the most exposure for new music is Prince, who guest-starred on "New Girl" immediately after the game. The episode, watched by nearly 26 million viewers, included a performance of his new song "PretzelBodyLogic."

Means 4M tuned in only for Halftime eek ...

Never thought he'd beat Beyoncé & Madonna!!! He's getting sick ass exposure at the moment.

I wish the same happens for Janelle, just imagine if she headlines! WOW!

I wish the same happens for every other talented artist, Pink, Janelle, Jack White, Daft Punk.. and also old acts such as Earth, Wind & Fire and Foo Fighters.

I'm here for every talented artist to headline this big gig, we don't wanna see any likes of Rihanna or Katy Perry, if NFL goes the same next year and bring a good performer it will be so worth-watching and as you see with no hype talent gathers MILLIONS of people.

Janelle will need some hits and a lot more exposure

before she would be the half-time show.

Good for him. The music industry needs more showcase talents like him.

And his people were smart: Tickets for his tour went on sale at 10am this morning.

I was on at exactly 10, and 48 minutes later, I ended up with crappy seats.
At least I'm going...

I saw him last year and he was amazing! I'm looking forward to another show, but that was hard! eek

Janelle doesnt have cross over appeal, that is what effects alot of people. Bruno every race likes, Janelle doesnt have that same appeal. Bruno is "safe", look at all the artists he was doing, Prince MJ and James Brown, in his act, Prince and MJ had every race following them. Then he had Red Hot out there to secure alternative white dudes respect.

There's lots of alternative Black, Asian (Hi), Middle Eastern, Latino etc. Who love The Chili Peppers. I don't think this is really even a race issue at all lol

I actually know alot of people from different races who like Janelle Monae. Her album debut at number 5 which isn't bad since she only had one video and a single that did not get any exposure so it is not like she is NOT known at all.

She's beautiful, she is talented, she can sing, she can perform and she makes QUALITY creative music, she has a artistic image...

I think her MAIN problem is she simply needs more exposure and the industry support. She needs her music to be playing on the radio and she needs to perform at more award show events.

They really exaggerated Beyonce's viewership here because after the Super Bowl last year they publicly displayed the viewership hourly chart and 90 million stayed to watch and 10 million tuned out. I don't really care but just saying.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy for Bruno.

He TRULY TRULY deserves this!

If he comes back through my area, I will definitly see him again! Worth every penny!

Turns out Bruno's gonna be nearby so I went ahead and got a decent cheap seat. Guess I'll see him a second time. Hopefully I can hear the music over the screaming girls this time... lol

Huh? I was making a general statement. confused I always knew this guy would blow up, where did I say he wasn't popular already? He's been popular but some seem to have a love / hate with him. It's pretty obivious that he is gaining even more new fans since this performance, so everyone hasn't exactly been drinking his koolaid, it took a while for some peiople to catch on. I'm a stan so i'm aware of his hits records, but still people didn't want him performing at this event. I'm happy they are eating their words.

I guess those are ok seats? I'm glad you got tickets tho. I hate ticket scalpers! mad

Tickets to Bruno Mars' Hawaii concerts went on sale Monday morning. Both shows sold out in just about 30 minutes, so a third show was added. But some fans still couldn't get tickets.

Peeps can get affordable tix at $38.00 (excluding TM fees rolleyes ) if they aren't picky about upper level seats. I got 'em on the side of the stage, second row...

Yeah, only the cheaper (farther back) seats are available on Ticketmaster now. All the good close up seats are taken--mostly by ticket resellers and being sold for exhorbitant prices mad
