I keep on sayin its' a wrap.....it's not going to get better..its' going to get worse......it's over

we better save all our music that we grew up with when this stuff meant something and memorize every word and melody because the industry is toast.....milk toast...

this is why I don't watch these awards shows anymore....for stunts like this

Yup. From clasSY to classLESS. If the Oscars require that actors and actresses show up all "classy," why do The Grammy's not require the same standard of presentation as well? I don't even like The Grammy's. It's all industry-perpetuated b.s. I'd rather simply watch The B.E.T. Awards. smile

ROBERT GLASPER SOUNDS LIKE ROY AYERS AND HE HAS A GRAMMY. JILL SCOTT LAST GOOD SONG WAS BLESSED, THE REST OF THE ALBUM NEEDED SOME WORK. JANELLE LATEST ALBUM IS NOT RADIO FRIENDLY. I'M OLDER THEN YOU AND I'VE BEEN AROUND WHEN BLACK MUSIC WAS QUALITY AND TODAY'S MUSIC IS NOT IT. I THINK YOU NEED TO GETS SOME FACTS BEFORE YOU DISMISS MY THEORY.

.

JANELLE LATEST ALBUM IS NOT RADIO FRIENDLY

You lost all creditability. Her CD has lots of radio friendly songs. The problem with Janelle is that her label did nothing to promote the CD as I think she got out to push it on her own. Black radio will not play her music because the CD is not filled with profanity, she has her clothes on, and it is not loaded down with rappers.

African-Americans are divests we have a lot going on in our community and it is not all about rappers and half - butt naked chicks. The Grammies and the industry are telling you what they think African-Americans should be listening to and seeing on T.V by their actions or inaction in Janelle's case.

Giving some cred to Phraell is not good enough and that is why we have are own awards.

I am not a young person and I would guess that a lot of people on this board are old school P fans putting most of us around 40-50 years old. We know about RnB because we grew up with it.

soooo because u have an opinion that's different then mine, u are more credible? listen her cd is not being played has to do with a lack of salesmanship from her label and no business relations wirh radio station. if they had these working for them, this would be a different conversation. the grammys has to do with who is putting enough work behind the curtain where the grammys has no choice but to take note.

------- Not a credible arugument. Too many artist have received Grammies with Albums or Cds that no one was playing on the radio. I believe Bob Dylan was in the stitation a few years ago. I know I did not hear anyone playing Herbie Hancocks cd on the radio a few years ago. I will not go into the Jetrto Tull nosense back in the 90s. Janelle is just not ignorant enough for black radio and not showing enough ass for the Grammies. You got to do a Beyonce strip club dance number and stick you ass in the camera to get on T.V.

Janelle's label probably didn't have the spare cash to buy her a hit because that is the way it is done. They did everything they could to get her exposure through tv commercials, tv appearances, and collaberations but it wasn't enough. If you want a hit, you have to buy it. The quality of the music for the most part doesn't matter.

The lack of Grammy nominations is probably due to no money for campaigning to older Grammy members. The obscure Lalah Hathaway and Snark Puppy won a Grammy for a cover of a very well known Brenda Russell song. Janelle had no musical exposure going for her.

I feel bad for Janelle because this might be her last shot. Best thing that can happen is she is dropped from label and maybe her friend Bruno Mars gets her on his label.

Is it definitely going that badly for her in commercial terms? I haven't really followed anything about how well the second album has sold, even though I do see her getting a fair bit of exposure - and generating a lot of interest from word-of-mouth. Is it common knowledge that sales are disappointing?

I wonder what a label expects from an artist like her. It'd be mad to anticipate her selling like Beyoncé, and judge anything less than that a failure; and there must be some kind of differentiation of strategy between different acts, since artists like, say, Erykah Badu or India.Arie herself still manage to craft commercially viable careers, despite playing to a more limited audience. It'd be a crying shame if they screwed her career for not getting as many iTunes downloads as Rihanna.

True. But I heard Beyonce made the "Anna Mae" line during her Grammy performance. I'd say that's insulting to a legend she borrows heavily from in her stage act.
