Rank the top SOLAR Records Artists Recently I bought all the greatest hits collections for these artists off Itunes (I never see them in stores) and I have discovered that it is some great music. Rank these artists from 1-8: Shalamar, The Deele, Lakeside, Midnight Star, The Whispers, Carrie Lucas, Dynasty, and Collage or tell your favorites with a favorite song.
1. The Whispers: I guess I have to put them first because they are often mentioned as one of the best all time R&B vocal groups and have the most hits and the longetivity. Tracks like "And the Beat Goes On" and "It's a Love Thing" are all time classics and have a funky vibe as well. Favorite Song: And The Beat Goes On
2. Shalamar: One of the most popular groups on the label, Shalamar's post-disco like tracks are some of the best of its time. I love the different lead vocals and harmonies as well as the arrangements. Favorite Song: Take That To The Bank
3. Midnight Star: I love the electrofunk and rhythms of this band. Have a lot of big hits but I don't hear them on the radio nowadays. I find their moving synth rhythms almost hypnotic. Favorite Song: No Parking On The Dancefloor
4. Lakeside: Perhaps my favorite of these groups with them being the funkiest. Great boogie dance tracks like the popular "Fantastic Voyage" and "It's All The Way Live". My favorite track though is a slow jam. Favorite Song: Real Love
5. Carrie Lucas: Not as well known as the above but has a beautiful voice and great light disco arrangements Favorite Song: Career Girl
6. The Deele: Babyface and LA Reid were in this group and they had some good funky r&b as well as pop ballads like "Two Occasions". Lurking on here suggests they copied The Time in a way, and I hear how their styles are similar, with the Deele not nearly as funky. Favorite Song: I Surrender
7. Collage: Not a well known group but after buying their greatest hits, I liked some of it although it did not seem too unique. My favorites were their funkiest tracks, some which remind me of Cameo. Favorite Song: Punk Me Off (Later)
8. Dynasty: a good disco-funk group perhaps in a similar mold as Evelyn Champagne King and others. Their music did not stand out as much to me as the others, but is solid dance music. Favorite Song: Satisfied [Edited 1/28/14 8:53am]

Thanks for reminding me that Klymaxx was on the label also, which I found out from Unsung. All their big hits were for another label and that's all I know so far by them. Now that I think of it though, "The Men All Pause" and "Meeting in the Ladies Room" from post-SOLAR do sound a lot like Midnight Star.
