This is Kool, Thanks! I had only heard the Sheila B. Devotion version--it's nice to hear Nile and 'Nards original demo!

This was way too good for Chic not to keep for themselves.

The late Tony Thompson (the drummer for Chic) said that exactly in an interview.

I agree! That Sheila Devotion chick couldn't sing to save her life if Chic had kept it for themselves,I know it would have been a smash hit.

Some of the songs on the King of the World album sound as if they might have been in better hands if they had been sung by Diana Ross or Kathy Sledge (of Sister Sledge) instead since they also had Chic-prodcued albums released during the same year.

The album's a gem, though... I was reading that book about Chic that was published some years back, about how it was sort of half-heartedly done (or at least, as close to heart-hearted as Chic got at that time) and a lot of the lyrics were nonsense etc. Still, the extended version of "Your Love Is Good" just puts me in another world, and I do also love "Spacer", "Charge Plates and Credit Cards" and "Don't Go". Barely mattered to me who sung them.

If anyone is judging Sheila's vocal ability soley on her CHIC album, check out some of her french language recordings.
She definately can sing. Nile and Nard's production of lead vocals are questionable at times. Case in point: the "CHIC Mix" of 'diana'. Some of them vocals... Side eye all day.
