In my mind, Running Up That Hill is one of the spookiest and most hunting songs ever. From first hearing it on the radio back in the 80's, i was drawn 2 the off kilter music and Kate Bush's voice.

Definitely one of my favorite songs(and the Album).

No argument here. I clearly remember when that song came out and it clicked with me... Seemed like it always came on the radio everytime I jumped in the car needing to drive as fast as possible away from the source of my angst at the time... lol

I have no idea who Will Young is but after reading your post I went on Youtube and checked out that performance you mentioned with that other dude on the piano.

It´s really a beautiful performance.

You probably already know the cover version that Placebo did years ago, right? I´m not a fan of Placebo but a close friend of mine is and he played it to me and it sounds great, too.

I´d love to hear Prince do a cover version of this song. I don´t like it when he does too many cover versions but this is one of those songs that would bring some freshness to his usual list of cover songs.

And I´d love to hear a Prince song covered by Kate Bush, albeit THAT is probably less likely than Prince covering her. wink

For someone who can´t stand touring and public performances she´s made some very expressive and unique videos. Ages ago there was this performance of Army Dreamers on 3sat (German/Austrian/Swiss TV station), and I think it´s one of the most creative TV performances I´ve ever seen by any artist in terms of choreography and creativity. And I love the lyrics to Army Dreamers.

The video to Running Up That Hill is not really my cup of tea but the choreography is pretty good for a non-professional dancer who never tours, and it kind of fits the theme of the song.

How do the Kate Bush fans here feel about the 2012 remix version of this song that was sung in a lower key? I did not dislike it but I think it was a bit too close to the original version except for the voice. A drastically different version would´ve been more interesting.

No denying this song is a classic!

Meaningwise, should it be taken "as is" lyrically, or is there some deeper meaning to the words?

I never have been able to figure it out, but I sure do enjoy it!

I agree, but I'm guessing she did it for her fans who would once again be disappointed by her refusal to perform, at least giving them something a bit different. Personally I'm bored of her re-recording her back catalogue when that time could be better spent recording new material.

We have to wait aeons for new material as it is.

It's certainly in my top five - it's creative, thematic and so layered...I'm sure people have written their thesis on it! 'The Morning Fog' is possibly the most beautiful couple of minutes I've ever heard.

Kate and Prince were/are my two musical heroes from the age of thirteen. I'm so glad they've (kind of) worked together..I feel vindicated in my long term fandom as a result. wink

However..I feel Kate's mojo isn't what it once was. Director's Cut was entirely unnecessary. It was bad enough re-recording Wuthering Heights in '86....she should look forward, especially when she's not improved the songs any in my opinion.

Like Prince, I thought Kate in the eighties was untouchable. Well, unless they decided to touch each other, but that's an entirely different fantasy thread.

I actually really liked the re-recording of Wuthering Heights in '86, but I totally agree with you on Director's Cut. It was a mess. But I adored Aerial.

Love the Placebo version, nice sinister edge to it! Will Young was a Pop Idol winner so don't blame you for not knowing who he is LoL

'The Morning Fog' is something else, isn't it? It drifts a little in the middle of course, but my God, the first minute and the last minute is just as good as it gets. Kate should've been knighted by now.

Sadly i don't think she has enough ''cred'' for the fame here. Since she is kind of a 2 hit wonder here...

In the UK she's practically royality.
