How unnecessary was Aretha's cover of "A Deeper Love"?

Deborah Cooper OWNS this song!

I'm sure Ree just covered the song at the request of Clive Davis for her 1994 Greatest Hits album since he liked the song, it didn't breakout at pop originally and saw the potential for it to become a bigger hit ....but c'mon....it was just an unnecessary retread of something that should have been left untouched.

Anyways, time for some classic C&C house...

I don't even remember the original version. But, I've always hated Aretha's song.

spit Oh hey VainAndy...it's good to see that's you. 'Cause for some strange reason, when I read that, I could swear I heard Dionne Warwick's voice in my head. falloff

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Ironically Aretha's cover only made impact on the dance charts just like the original.

Aretha's cover was useless.

Was this the tune in "Sister Act"? I remember watching that film not too long ago and going dayum that tune sounds dated.

Clive Davis also gave Aretha a song to cover that was again, only a few years old and near identical. To be fair though, the original was never a hit, and neither was Aretha's LOL. At least Foster got a great vocal from her.

The Mariah "inspired" original:-

Not sure how Jordan's original missed the charts? (Clive must of thought this too). Lack of promotion? Too young? Who knows, but the original is better though. David Foster vs Narada. Foster wins this one. The backing vocals on the chorus are preferred for one thing. I prefer the lead vocals too, even if she sounds an awful lot like Mariah LOL.

She was the female lead singer for the group Change (which successfully launched Luther Vandross's solo career). After Change disbanded in the mid-80's, Cooper did backup vocals for a number of artists, of which C +C Music Factory was one of them.
