Madonna calls her son "N Word" on Instagram

http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20777391,00.html

Madonna is apologizing for an Instagram photo caption in which she used the n-word.

"No one messes with Dirty Soap!" she captioned a photo of her 13-year-old son Rocco. "Mama said knock you out! #disn---a"

The comment was quickly removed according to Buzzfeed, and replaced with this one: "Ok let me start this again. #get off my d-ck haters!"

But the singer changed her tune on Saturday. "I am sorry if I offended anyone with my use of the N word on Instagram," the pop star said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.

"It was not meant as a racial slur ... I am not a racist. There's no way to defend the use of the word. It was all about intention."

"It was used as a term of endearment toward my son who is white," Madonna continues. "I appreciate that it's a provocative word and I apologize if it gave people the wrong impression. Forgive me."

This isn't the first time Madonna's made waves on Instagram. Earlier this month, she stirred up controversy with a photo of Rocco holding a bottle of gin.

"No one was drinking we were just having fun! Calm down and get a sense of humor!" she wrote in response to the backlash. "Don't start the year off with judgement!"

If she doesn't want folks to "start the year off with judgement" then maybe she should have started the year off with some intelligence.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I don't think she was trying to be racist, but rather "cool" by trying to act like the kids do on social networks with some bratty/immature worded post. I like Madonna but that was mindnumbingly dumb of her. She needs to get off Twitter and Instagram, she acts like she's her kids age when she's on them. I'm too old for Twitter and Instagram, then she's WAY too old for it.

I never understood how these big-shot celebrities who alledgedly have such hectic, busy schedules have so much idle time to write and post silly, childish bullshit on facebook, twitter and instagram.hrmph

Wow. Been reading about this one ALL day. I love me some Madonna, and she's been known for doing and saying some off-the-cuff shit for years, but this one might do her in. You just don't say and do this kind of thing in this ultra-PC world we live in today. They'll probably tack on little snide racism jokes and rejoinders to her name whenever she's talked about from now on, ala Paula Deen. SMH.

There's being PC and there's having some common decency. She apparently doesn't have any.

And starting off an apology with "I'm sorry if" is not a real apology.

It's time for Madonna to go.

But the writing's been on the wall for some time now. When "Hard Candy" came out I lamented that the inevitable happened (Madonna finally had nothing left to say). Now she's dating men a 3rd of her age and acting like a brat on the computer that she supposedly shied her children away from while they were growing up. Notice she wasn't an internet presence then.

Madonna today is the perfect example of when if you don't have anything to say, don't say it.

And I daresay that I blame my black community a little for this as well. Through hip-hop we've been selling that word for decades now. Can we blame people for buying it?

I have 2 agree on that. I was teenager in the 90's and I thought it was just ok 2 use the N-word...becuz I didn't knew the history behind that expression back then and it was all over the place in the music I used 2 listen. A friend of mine eventually told me that I would get my a** whooped if I said that in America. Not the same case of Madonna here, I know, but I could have used the word back then without any intention of harm...N*** and brotha sounded equally friendly 2 me, then. Anyway, I think that words can be as harmful as the intentions behind them.

Am I wrong, this nut has black kids in her house? And yet as a white woman/mother she chose to use that word out of all words? GTFO.... and don't even begin to blame Hip-hop for her slip confused . It will be bad enough when her "kids" get called that in the real world, let alone hear those words out of the mouth of their "mother" who happens to be white. Trust, she forgot where she was and who was listening/reading. She ain't foolin no one, at least not me.

there is no blaming the black community for this. Anyone with half a brain cell knows the connotations behind that word, black and white people alike.

I won't blame hip-hop for HER slip, but c'mon. Go on some facebook pages or some of these folks pages. You got white kids, muslim kids etc. all very comfy calling each other n!gga. It's weird to me but I've never been comfortable using the word casually. I agree she got a little too comfortable and forgot where she was. It's happened to me a couple times, but they weren't plkayin. They just straight up threw out n!gger. Not directed towards me but totally inescusable.

Just because she is Madonna people going to defend. Her hardcore fans would go off if Lady GaGa, Mariah Carey, Xtina, or Robin Thick said the n word y'all would go off. Now that Madge has said suddenly ''the black community'' is to blame? are we for serious in this thread people? are y'all serious?

As Stymie said ''

Madonna is always trying to push buttons and be edgy. Saying the N word is not edgy... i don't care how many men of color you claimed to fuck in the 90's.

What's worse is how the gay community treats these things. They want to talk about racial situations and how it affects the world. Yet when one of their ''divas'' does some racists sit suddenly there's excuses.

That's why Katy Perry can wear racists shit towards Asians... and no one blinks. That's why Rihanna and crew can do stupid shit like Princess Of China video and it doesn't have to be PC. And since Madonna is well... a huge icon in the gay world. Whatever she says is seen as ''brave'' or ''fearless'' but if any other artists... especially if it was say someone like Joni Mitchell or Bruce Springsteen it would probably be seen as horrible racists. Double standards in the gay community...

I'm a Madonna fan and even I think this is ridiculous. She's never been one to have any sort of filter but this is just uncalled for. She's really starting to run out of ideas to push peoples buttons and it's showing.

@guns nod The gay community doesn't even flinch when a gay icon does something racist. There's always some reasoning behind it. Like they were trying to be accepting and failed or something nuts

i agree. i don't like how the blame is shifted on black people whether it's a prevalant word in hip-hop or not. it's not like every black person says it (i don't.) and it's still a racial slur. never have i seen people complain about not being able to say a racial slur than i have over the n-word. other racial slurs are unacceptable but somehow there's a million excuses as to why everybody should be able to say the n-word. anyway madonna disappointed me as a black fan of hers, and her apology sucked.
