The New Springsteen Album, High Hopes

November 25th
Link

You can call it a late Christmas present for the Bruce Springsteen fan in your life.

The Boss's new album, titled High Hopes, will be out on January 14.

Springsteen's first studio album since last year's Wrecking Ball will feature 12 tracks in all, including what Springsteen in the liner notes calls "a proper studio recording" of live staples "American Skin" and "The Ghost of Tom Joad."

Springsteen calls many of the tracks on High Hopes, "some of our best unreleased material from the past decade." That material includes contributions on several tracks by late E Street Band members Clarence Clemons and Danny Federici.

Guitarist Tom Morello, who sat in for Steve Van Zandt during the E Street Band's Australian tour last March, is featured on eight of the tracks, and suggested adding "High Hopes" -- a cover of the song by the LA-based band Havalinas -- to the live set. You can watch a video for "High Hopes" now on Springsteen's YouTube channel.

High Hopes
, the album, is available for pre-order now at Amazon.com.

Here's the track list:

"High Hopes" (Tim Scott McConnell) -- featuring Tom Morello
"Harry’s Place" -- featuring Tom Morello
"American Skin (41 Shots)" -- featuring Tom Morello
"Just Like Fire Would" (Chris J. Bailey) -- featuring Tom Morello
"Down In The Hole"
"Heaven’s Wall" -- featuring Tom Morello
"Frankie Fell In Love"
"This Is Your Sword"
"Hunter Of Invisible Game" -- featuring Tom Morello
"The Ghost of Tom Joad" -- duet with Tom Morello
"The Wall"
"Dream Baby Dream" (Martin Rev and Alan Vega) -- featuring Tom Morello

Looks like it's really a Bruce Springsteen featuring Tom Morello CD.

Bruce Springsteen Sheds Light on High Hopes and the Possibility of US Concerts in 2014
December 18th

Late at night, while he's on tour, Bruce Springsteen says he'll check out the backlog of music he's stored on his computer. There's plenty of unfinished material waiting for him at home, too.

"When I go into my studio, I'm surrounded by all my music that I haven't released," Springsteen tells Rolling Stone. "I wait to see what's going to speak to me."

What spoke to him recently was an assortment of originals and covers he says "were relatively current and had a similar sound picture," so Springsteen revisited and recorded a batch for his new album, High Hopes, due January 14.

Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, who since 2008 has been appearing on stage with Springsteen, performs on six of the High Hopes tracks.

"He jolted those songs into the now," Springsteen says. "He's one of the few guitarists that creates a world by himself. It's like The Edge or Pete Townshend or Johnny Marr."

Morello will join Springsteen and the E Street Band for a tour that begins January 26 in South Africa and also includes dates in Australia and New Zealand.

As for U.S. concert run in 2014, Springsteen says, "I don't want to say 'yes' because I don't want to disappoint people, but I certainly don't want to rule it out, either. We're looking closely out at since there's places we missed on the last tour."

Oops! Amazon erroneously uploaded the album the other day. As the result of early availability, fans paid for the downloads and posted songs on file-sharing sites.

THIS times 1,000. I'm a huge nerd for his music. But, to me he hasn't been great, since The Rising. Magic was ok, Working On A Dream was boring, Wrecking Ball had some great tracks... the rest were shit.

I don't see how Rolling Stone can give each one of those albums 5 stars. That just proves they will give a goof rating to any old rocker.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Yeah I agree, his last 3 albums just didn't do it for me. "Wrecking Ball" just bored me and left me depressed.

No, just friends of Jan Wenner. Yoko gets a tongue bath for her asshole every time she puts something out too.

Just ordered the limited edition for the DVD..saw him do the complete Born in the USA album in Munich last year, that's reason enough for me.

Concerning the new music, I'm cautiously optimistic...Working on a Dream and Wrecking Ball didn't do much for me unfortunately.

I'm glad to see a studio version of American Skin. Hopefully Brucey gets his game back, Wrecking Ball wasn't as good as it could have been.

I really liked most of Wrecking Ball... That being said, they were much better in the live concert. It will be interesting to see what he does with this album... Don't know if I will like it as much as Wrecking Ball...

I'd be all over a cover album of rock from the 50's and 60's. He should consider one.
