Icka Prick... about Prince?

I've just read in an old Org thread that Funkadelic's Icka Prick was in reference to Prince... is there any truth in this?

George Clinton apparently said that it was in response to to all the attention and raised eyebrows Prince was getting at the time, with his imagery and subject matter on albums like "Dirty Mind".....

...

At the time, Warner Brothers kept censoring and limiting Funkadelic, (like censoring the artwork to "Electric Spanking"...and cutting it down from a double album to a single album), while at the same time, Prince was getting the red carpet treatment, despite his envelope pushing...so this was kind of a tongue in cheek reaction...more directed at people's reaction, and Warner's double standard, rather than to Prince himself....kinda like, "You think that's nasty? well how about this? LOL

Huh, I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing.

That's one of my favourite Funkadelic tracks. I've always been fascinated how well it conveys the feel of some of the hiphop stuff that came years later, but done so much better with real musicians. It also sounds like a track Prince might have taken inspiration from when he started to have a "looser" and a more hiphop influenced sound in the 1990s.

Yeah, me too -I've always loved how almost effortlessly funky it is...relies on the guitars and sparse electronic percussion to drive the groove. Ironically, it would probably would've been a hit, if it weren't for the subject matter, LOL!!!

Ah, thanks for the reply! smile It's one of my favourite Funkadelic songs and that it's paritally a reaction to P is really interesting.
