Thank you! He is really the only blue eyed soul artist that I ever really was shocked that he was white. I think I would have been shocked about Lewis Taylor as well, if so many people hadn't put it out there that he was white. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries." | |

Exactly! I never get tired of this song... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

In a recent Waxpoetics interview, Bobby was recounting his first tour, back in the late 70's - Natalie Cole had invited him to be on the bill--and his first stop was Cleveland. The audience knew his hit tune from the radio, but nobody had seen him before. He said, "Everybody was waiting to hear soul brother Bobby Caldwell" LOL! He remembers walking out on the stage to stunned silence --"when I came out , you could hear a pin drop....but I got used to it... and I decided early on that the best approach was to just be myself...shortly after that, I was pretty much accepted as a blue eyed soul singer..."

I own a couple of his albums but I find them abit samey and too laid back. Too westcoast I guess? I should try them again....
anyway, I dig his work for other artists, like this one for example. Written with another songwriter Steve Kipner....
The production screams mid 80's. Very hi-tech. I like the snearing lyrics aswell LOL. (It's worth noting he wrote a few other hits for Chicago too. "what kind of man would I be" would probably be held in higher regard, if he had released it himself LOL.).
He also did some nice work on Michael Sembello's bomb album "without walls" from 1986.
Here's "Angelina". Killer intro.

Yeah, I also like this one that he wrote for Cherly Lynn - "I've Got Faith In You"--definitely one of his more up-tempo tunes....
