What is Electro? Anybody have a definition of "Electro" that is not on Wikipedia? Can anybody provide me with some examples of this genre of music? I thought one of my all-time favorites, "Help Me" by Timo Maas and Kelis, would be one but I'm not sure which category it would fall under. It would be greatly appreciated. Electro is a villain from Marvel Comics. Electroclash was a somewhat lame offshoot of breakbeats and house that was borderline vulgar (see Disco D, Princess Superstar, Miss Kittin, etc.), fun, and harsh sounding.
As the over genre-fication of electronic music led to a confusing lot of one hit wonders, electroclash dropped the clash to become a bit more familiar as a sound that bridges breakbeats and house.
Now it is simply lumped into the mess that the kids call EDM.
Its the P.Diddy of EDM as it lifted and borrowed from other genres as it pleased. Diddy even tried to cash in on it with "iconic" (read: where are they now) DJ Hell. [Edited 12/26/13 11:43am]

The EDM genre called Electro (short for "Electro Funk"), which was invented by Afrika Bambaataa via the inspiration from Kraftwerk & Yellow Magic Orchestra, is basically synth-driven funk made with only keyboard synths and drum machines at a tempo of 115-135 BPM. Electro was also the original sounds of hip-hop/rap music. Detriot's original Techno sound as well as NYC's & Miami's Latin Freestyle sounds are direct off-shoots of Electro.
