Three from Swing Out Sister

Back in the 80's and early 90's, Swing Out Sister had a couple hits in the US(Twilight World, Breakout). They're a British group so I'm sure they're more popular in the UK and Europe than here in the states.

Regardless of hits or not, they're a classy, funky and soulful group that in 2013, still makes great music.

Sugar Free. From the album, Filth And Dreams(1999)

Now you're Not Here. From the album, Shapes & Patterns(1997)

Somewhere In The World. From the album, Shapes & Patterns(1997)

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

I assumed that was the case too until I asked a British record dealer about them at a record show some years ago. Surprising to me, they fell off the UK pop charts in the early '90s, same as they did in the US. Regardless of chart success, they are wicked good. For me, "Waiting Game" and the album verion of "Notgonnachage" are some of the greatest records of the 20th century.

Stuff like that upsets me greatly sad. I understand that "good music" is in the eye of the beholder but it seems like shit sells and quality songs, groups and singers tend 2 fall by the wayside. I have 4 swing out sister albums and they are all good. Their latter stuff is good as well.

And as for singers, Corinne Drewery is one of the best. That woman has a beautiful voice.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

Compared to a lot of other artists' rest periods, 5 years isn't all that long a time. But this is the longest SOS've gone without putting out a new studio album. Maybe they'll pull a Beyonce before the new year. lol

...

The weird thing is, they actually fell off in the UK Before the US...their 'Filth and Dreams' album wasn't even released in the UK....

But anyway, I've always loved their sound, and I'm still a big fan!!!

They're really popular in Japan, and that's probably one of the reasons the group still exists. SOS have a few releases exclusive to Japan and often perform there.

I've not kept up with them recently, but they were one of my favourite bands when I first discovered music.

'It's Better To Travel' was a really good album (all killer, no filler!) and the 12" of Breakout had a pretty cool 3D audio effect during an instrumental section. Reminded me of the 'Q Sound' gimmick that Paula Abdul had on one of her albums.

I'm glad to hear they're still around, the musical world is all the better for their classy sound and image.

'Q Sound'

The only place I've seen this is a maxi single I have for Justify My Love by Madonna.
