'Mean Mugging In The Jazz Section' is a great title for a song.

WTF is that ? Is it a church thing ? She looks like shes possessed. Either way lol thumbs up!

No, it's not a church thing. Them children gettin' their vogue on. That move right there is called the "death drop". This should only be attempted by a trained professional queen.

Amazing. When a person really looks at it, it is quite graceful.

Is because at the end of the day, you know that your opinion means nothing.

The stan wars, the flaming, the arguments that erupt over nothing.

And yes, this is a response to that dumb Whitney, Madonna, Janet, Mariah thread that has erupted into nothing but stan wars, and the various comments I see daily on the org.

Your opinion means NOTHING. I will repeat that for those that didn't catch it the first time, your opinion means NOTHING.

Saying that someone else's opinion doesn't matter because they like another artist that you don't like is wrong and irrelevant. You have no empirical evidence of any sort that said artist is inferior in any way, shape, or form.

You can continue to throw around words like, "trash", "crap", or claim that the artist only cares about the money. It doesn't matter. Guess what? It's called an industry for a reason. It's called a business for a reason.

The Beatles are as much of a product as Flo Rida is; they were marketed to the public as a brand so that money could be made. It's an INDUSTRY. Money is the goal. The music industry thrives off of the money that it makes and therefore sells products (better known as artists) that it thinks will be profitable.

Michael Jackson was a product.

Elvis Presley was a product.

Lady Gaga is a product.

The Beatles were a product.

Prince was a product.

Why did I mention all that about the industry above? I'm trying to say something. Your opinion is nothing but that; an opinion. You cannot prove that The Beatles are superior to Soulja Boy, nor can you claim that Soulja Boy is more of a product than The Beatles.

I'm tired of the mucking about and the stan wars. The music discussion here, when it happens, is fantastic. Timmy's new music thread was one of the greatest threads to come out of this year. Those who are here for music and want to talk more about it should continue to push forward so that we can accomplish that goal. I have been a victim of the mentality that I trashed above, and am trying to rectify it.

I just feel like I needed to get that off of my chest. I'm going to start doing things a bit differently here, starting with "smoothcriminal's album of the week" and "smoothcriminal's throwback jam of the day", to occur daily. Just wanna spark some interesting conversation that is needed. smile

And to clarify, this is not directed towards any particular user. This is a result of multiple things I've seen written on the org throughout my almost two years hear.

Opinions? Thoughts? This thread could make for some interesting conversation.

My new album is available HERE: http://itunes.apple.com/a...mpt=uo%3D1

This is true in theory but I demand a poll on this! biggrin

she IS clever and attentive to current trends and as is always stated, a "shrewd businesswoman". and she surrounds herself with the "right" (or at least risky) people as it relates to stylists and producers. the summation is "manufactured staying power" but are these things an actual MUSICAL talent? No.

See, the original comment was "TALENTLESS whore", not "MUSICAL TALENTLESS whore"....Madge has her talents, they are what have kept her around for so long (you've mentioned some, I'd add the ability to put on great theatrical live shows to that). Just because her talents aren't the ability to kick ass on the guitar or write the next Nevermind doesn't mean she's devoid of any talent. Her talents are in the wider music industry.

1. George Michael is gay (Sorry Tinaz)

2. If someone listens to certain artists you don't like it doesn't they're stupid, ignorant, ''need to wake up'', brainwashed etc. I know people who listen to everything from Nicki Minaj & Kesha... to Franz Liszt, Megadeth, Stevie Wonder, and Conway fucking Twitty.

3. All joking aside from the other thread... Rihanna is going to have more number 1 hits than Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey. And so is Katy Perry... that's just how it goes with their marketing. And when it happens, the apocalypse won't come, and Michael will not rise from the grave.

4. Chris Brown is the worst piece of human shit ever to create music besides no period needed till now.

5. Snoop Dogg Smells like weed and cream corn in real life. Scarletscandel can attest to this.

6. Just cause you like heavy metal... doesn't mean you're a superior musician. Get off your own baby dick smile

7. Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and Elvis were all great. It's 2014 clearly and Little Richard is older than Jesus. Stop with the king of rock n roll shit. Cause it was a mix of all of them you dig?

8. Just cause you listen to jazz doesn't mean you can't smile. Got damn! stop mean mugging in the jazz section...

9. Bringing numbers into things (Looking at you Janet, Madonna Mariah, Michael stans) doesn't mean an artist is great. Sorry love... it doesn't. When people talk Stevie Wonder it's about the fact he is blind and plays 1,000 instruments. And the fact he made classic albums! his fucking sales and awards are not brought into question.

When Bob Dylan or Bruce Springsteen are talked about. It's their writing! not the sales and awards that people talk about. So Janet and Mariah have 2,000 number 1 hits, 100 billboard awards, 23 vibe awards, and 20 kids meals from McDonald's. But is their music good? is their album good? why is it good? that's what matters, so quit bringing numbers into it you psycho stans.

10. Playing instruments doesn't mean you're a good musician

11. Morrissey Is Not A GOD

12. R. Kelly is a nasty pedophile, and he needs to never wear those struggle braids again.

I know this is a lot to take in... here's a hug and my condolences. Guns is hear for you.

1. George Michael is a future R&RHOFer. Just wait a while. wink

2. If someone listens to certain artists you don't like it doesn't they're stupid, ignorant, ''need to wake up'', brainwashed etc. At the same token, I refuse to lower my musical standards because of those same MFer as well. Excuse me for being too real about it.

3. Katy Perry, I can put up with up to a point. But I'm not cutting Rihanna no slack. F*** her......

4. ........and f*** Chris Brown as well!

5. Snoop Dogg/Lion is a self-parody these days.

6. These days, real metal music only exist in Europe. Most of North American metal has been a joke after the 1980's. Yes, I said it!

7. If Elvis really is the king of R&R, then Michael Bolton is the king of r&b/soul! Hey, why not?!? rolleyes

8. When it comes to jazz, I lose my smile only when jazz purists are talking that same old bullshit about jazz fusion ruining everything for them.

9 Bringing numbers into things doesn't mean an artist is great. nod And it's too damn bad that Lady Gaga's little monsters would strong disagree with this. disbelief lol

10. Playing instruments doesn't mean you're a good musician, especially if the "instruments" are only a sampling drum machine and a keyboard workstation that has that same preset sound that everyone is using at the moment. lol

11. Who in the hell is Morrissey?

12. If those then-underage girls that got urined on were white, R. Kelly would be in prison right now. You know it and I know it.

Let me add something:

1.) MC Hammer was/is not a sellout.

2.) Lil' Wayne is actually very intelligent and even attended the University of Houston for a brief moment.

3.) As much as he lobbied to "free the music" in the mid to late 90s, Prince released some of the worst albums of his career.

4.) Tupac Shakur was not a thug, a criminal, or hardcore. Anyone trained in ballerina does not have any ties to street culture.

5.) Even though Thriller sold in excess of 100 million albums, Michael Jackson's masterpiece is Off the Wall.

6.) The Victory Tour sucked. There was no harmony whatsoever between the brothers and Michael only did it as a favor to them.

7.) Little Richard is not the originator of rock and roll. The music he performed was being played in Houston, Texas years before he became associated with the culture.

8.) Before R Kelly was singing about "Black Panties," Lucille Bogan released "Shave Me Dry" in 1935. How's that for audio porn?

9.) Living Colour and Lenny Kravitz are the only black musicians to receive back-to-back Grammys in the hard rock category for their respective works.

10.) Rakim is the greatest rapper of all time.

11.) Sha-Rock deserves props for being the first female emcee to ever rock the mic.

12.) Joni Mitchell never lied.

But how you can generalize that Off the Wall is a better album than Thriller..??

Everyone has a point of view.

Lol

I caught the weed smell, but as far a cream corn...

Well, you're taller than me, therefore, your nose is higher in the atmosphere and you can detect smells undetectable by people under 6 feet.

That cream corn smell might have been from the hair grease he uses for his ponytails though...

Metal guys who are into musicianship often miss the forest for the trees. They'd rather be able to play barely-passably at a million miles an hour than play one rhythm lick as precisely as Wendy Melvoin.
