Murmurings of D'Angelo

Seen on http://www.kanyetothe.com...30334.1026

"So this dude supposedly heard D'Angelo's album..he was in the studio with Russell Elevado..

@BENIBLANCO: Omg. Hearing the finished most anticipated soul album of our generation right now. Tears

@BENIBLANCO: **** me. ****. Right now I am completely loving life. By 2014 D'Angelo will have made the two greatest soul albums of our life time.

@BENIBLANCO: @alex_chase best music I've heard in 13 years.

Sorry, but this is same shit different week. There has been a gazzilion threads on this motherfuckers new album since i started the org in 2009. It's 90% done then 95% then 98% then 99% then 99.7%

Until the album is ON shelves, itunes, or anywhere else. I don't think y'all should get your hopes up lol it's been 13 years now... and for at least a year the album has been promised. Everything in between is shit talk(Damn you ?love), until the album comes out.

I heard the new Joyce album is coming out soon though.

I don't quite understand the over-the-top incredulity? He was doing fine through 2012 and 2013, come August when he cancelled a whole bunch of shows. These tweets seem like some genuine good news, maybe he's just laying low and polishing it up, or figuring out the paperwork.

This is too funny. No one takes these heard-the-new-album pronouncements seriously anymore. Until I stumble upon the new song from D'Angelo playing on my local station I will live happily in ignorant bliss.

Plus his whole cancelling shows/illness/disappearing for the remainder of the year thing smacks of unfortunate falling-off-the-wagon to me. I hope I'm wrong.

Co-sign. This is actually some very good news and it is NOT coming from Questlove, so if he´s not the only one talking about it, then there might be some truth to it.

The past two years were comparatively good years for D´Angelo, looking healthy and fit in that GQ interview, doing successful shows in Europe and showcasing new songs and new versions of older songs.

I´m glad he´s even still alive and I don´t care if I´m the last one who still believes in him. His next album is going to be the bomb, the leaked new songs and the songs he´s played live are a good indication, and the two albums he´s released so far (three if you count the live album) may not make him look very productive but those two albums are filler-free and much, much stronger than twice or triple the amount of albums by most other musicians.

I never get tired of his music, regardless of how little he´s released so far.

Can´t wait for his new album to come out. And if he needs two or three more years, then so be it.

wink

so according to this tweet, the album is already "finished"? Then why is it taking so long to get released? I can't see why there should be any further delays.

So, any more news on this? I guess D well and back in play after his hospitalisation? Checked Russel Elevado's twitter page and nothing on there so if he is still involved he is keeping a lid on it. This silence has been lasting so long I almost long for Quest to say it is 99,9% finished.

Still waiting smile

Personally.... I think the CD is already done but his people are probably trying to map out how they want to market the album and other technical stuff non related to the actual music.

One can only imagine the number of songs he's stockpiled since retreating from super stardom and the spotlight over a decade ago. Though I long to hear what is probably a treasure trove of great material, I'm resigned to the fact that it ain't gonna happen in the immediate future, if at all.

If he truly is making a "Soul" album, will he be satisfied with moderate sales? Because that's exactly what he's going to get. R&B music has changed dramatically since his last album. Most people aren't even remotely interested in Soul music anymore. What's left of Soul is mostly underground. He's going to have to sound current if he expects the disc to move decent numbers. And if that's the case, I can guarantee it won't be the masterpiece everyone is hoping it will be. I hope I'm wrong but I'm just expecting another version of "Black Panties" from D.

I have softened my stance. Neither D'Angelo or Alan Leeds has said publicly that this album is the greatest soul album of our generation or this album is a masterpiece. It's interlopers who spike the hype publicity to the Nth degree with these kind of superlatives. I give D'angelo props for not making these wild declarations. However, Questlove and cats of the like need to fall back and let the music rise and fall by the merit of the music.

So we have to go underground to find soul music in an industry that has lost its "soul". I understand having to move some records but if D'Angelo incorporates too much of these current sounds I will be reluctant to throw my coins down to buy it but I guess we will see.

I dunno...Amy Winehouse and Adele had two of the worldwide biggest hit albums of the last 7 years and they are decidedly soul influenced in comparison to Rihanna, Bieber, Gaga etc.

.

Especially Back To Black, that album was as retro soul sounding as you can get!

.

If D's new album great, it'll cut through.

In fact, I wouldn't be all that surprised if a new album could outdo Voodoo in commerical success (which wasn't a huge seller anyway). D'Angelo has built up quite a fan base in the decade plus that he's been out of action.

Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

Oh, D'angelo has an album that is on the verge of being released? It's finished? It's on its way? It's going to be the best soul album ever? The most anticipated album ever is finally going to come out?

What is it? 2005? 2006? 2007? 2008?

I've lost track.

Prince delivered masterpiece after masterpiece in a very short period of time. Mozart could crank out masterpieces after a very short period of time. Beethoven took a little longer, yet the end results were astounding. For his ninth symphony alone, Beethoven composed most of it over a two year period. D'Angelo has taken over ten years, and I know his ass is not creating no ninth symphony. lol So for me, he is either being extremely meticulous to the point where he's driving his career to obsoleteness, or he is just being lazy. I hope for his sake that he's being meticulous and not just suffering from mere slothness, because the wait has been excruciating.

D'angelo had a HARDCORE drug problem for YEARS!!!! It was hard enough keeping him alive! Nevermind just trying to get him in the studio, to record a descent amount of tracks, to fill a comeback album. Obviously NOONE here cares about getting someone to a healthy place to sustain a good clean living, so he won't slip back to the horrid state he was in! D'angelo almost died from OVERDOSES, CAR CRASHES & OBESITY!!!!! You people are so heartless with no compassion on this hateful site...

Some people were on drugs, obese, had family dying, and had been shot. And still would make an album per year and it would be damn good stirthepot

And, sorry about it, i don't feel bad about the drug problems. That was HIS decision to do that dumb shit. Yeah... he struggled with it. And many of my friends have... and they expect people to play the ''it's an addiction i can't help that i steal your shit'' type play. NO... YOU chose to do the drugs, and YOU choose to let it fuck up your career. No sympathy from me.

If you leave things half-finished it can be quite hard to return to that stuff later on. Trying to finish something that you've recorded years ago is hardly an enjoyable task.

I wouldn't necessarily call that "laziness", as it's more about the whole process having become so awkward that you can't really see yourself working on it 24/7 anymore.

Maybe he really should just get someone else to finish the material for him. You know, a producer.

D'Angelo and Lauryn Hill both had the potential to totally change the face of R&B in the 2000s,if they had remained active and prolific. It's too bad that they threw that opportunity away confused even if D'Angelo finally finishes the new album and releases it,it's not likely to have the same type of impact that it could have had.
