Easily the best black awards show hands down. This blows the BET Awards out of the water by a mile.

Although, I'm a bit resentful at how everybody seems to be pretending that Fine China didn't happen this year. I know Chris Brown is a sensitive subject but that one banged HARD and got passed over on most awards shows.

I'm also a little disappointed at how dancing seems to be very underplayed at the Soul Train awards. It was a show that focused on dancers. Where is the "Best choreography" award? Still, it kicked the stuffing out of the AMAs. That crap was terrible.

My son and I both watched and loved it. Unlike the AMAs.

My fave was the black leather strapless floor-length dress. But I can't find a pic of it anywhere and can't remember who wore it.

Toni and Janelle looked nice.

Ashanti's dress was beautiful but should have been covered in front because by the time she got onstage it had ridden right up to her crotch and looked like pubic hair.

But lord knows wth Tamar Braxton had on... Wrong on so many levels.

Big Daddy!!!!! He did those splits!!!!

And Idris... That voice...that Toyota commercial.

Lorenze Tate never ages...neither does Vanilla Ice or Jon B.

Chaka was gorgeous as usual. Keith Sweat still made me get up and dance. So did Doug E and Slick Rick...

Anthony Anderson provided the effective, classy mix of Master of Ceremonies duties

and effective comedy that is expected for a host of a top quality awards show such

as the Soul Train Awards or the Academy Awards. His introductions and comedy performances

had an excellent variety that was enjoyable to all different types of people.

The 2013 ST Awards Show successfully executed that very important balance

between performances and subjects that educate the older generations (age 40 and above) about the newer R&B music artists who received their honors and inform the newer generations (age 40 and below)

about the top level older artists who received their honors. Warren G, Doug E Fresh, Big Daddy Kane, Keith Sweat, Eddie Levert (perfect substitute for the Spinners), Vanilla Ice, Ronald Isley, Evelyn King, Chaka Khan, and Gladys Knight all proved that they still got it. The young folks such as Wale & Stokely Williams, Tamar Braxton, Jennifer Hudson, Eric Benet, and T.I., proved that they are worthy of attention from older R&B music fans who may want to add newer music

to the collections. Faith Evans is 40 years old so she kind of seems in both the older and the younger group but either way she perfectly (that is not an exaggeration) played her role as the female half of the duet

in “Make It Last Forever”.

The “Blue-Eyed Soul” segment also provided good education and reminders about the effective performers in that R&B subcategory.

Wolf Blitzer's participation is an important reminder that R&B music and Soul Train

is enjoyable to and revered by all types of people and professionals from all the other ethnic groups that are not African-American. The live performance by Bobby Caldwell and Dave Koz was

good jolt of refreshing surprise from the use of a lesser-known member of the “Blue Eyed Soul” category.

There was plenty of sexy, tasty eye candy for all tastes and preferences.

The list of ladies included a lot of them such as Janell Snowden, Tamar Braxton,

Toni Braxton, Chaka Khan, K Michelle, and Chrisete Michelle to name only a few of the libido stimulators.

Dionne Warwick's award acceptance was a classy, emotional segment.

The 2013 ST Awards Show added a few creative uses of a key feature of the 70s, 80s, and 90s

ST episodes, the Soul Train Line. The home video contest was an excellent idea. The use of the

ST Line in the finale to 2013 was classic. It mixed a pre-line performance by Doug E Fresh,

who was in top form for his combination beat box\rap flow\dance step activities with a

live Soul Train Line to end the show while that ST Line included several of the performers and presenters (even Wolf Blitzer).

If you missed the original 2013 ST Awards broadcast on 12-1-13, you would enjoy the encore presentation from

BET or Centric when you have the chance later this month or subsequently.

You know I didn't even tune in because I didn't think it was going to be that great (plus it was mandatory for me to watch the Fall Season Finale of The Walking Dead)...but my mom called me and said my man Keith Sweat was on there singing and my husband Idris presented an award. I felt like I had missed out, so I've set my DVR for it's next airing so that I can check it out. Glad to hear you guys enjoyed it, that makes me want to see it even more. Especially to hear that Jon B. was on there too? Man, I can't wait to see it.

My sister showed up at the last minute and wanted me to go with her to a jazz/poetry/comedy showcase and I totally forgot that the STA's were coming on. I'll have to set my DVR, too.

Yeah, the groove alone to "Fine China" deserves recognition. Craps on most of the more popular stuff that took off this year. But like BK said, most award shows are going to avoid him like the plague. We'll see what the Grammys does this year. I'm not sure how well it sold but it was a funky little tune for the dude. I can admit that.

I loved the dionne warwick tribute..tamar outfit was so terrible sorry ..janelle monae is always fine, cool,classy and all and I love that she took her mama with her..she even gave her a shout out in her acceptance speech..sweet..

It was a pretty good awards show.

Loved how they brought out my man Jon B. Goodness!!!

Also Big Daddy Kane!!!!

The bit at the end with Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick was insane!!!

The Dionne Warwick tribute was pretty good but I think they had too many singers to perform the tribute, but I thought Chrisette Michele was the perfect person to participate in it.

But my highlight of the show was Mr. Keith Sweat. Ahh man, he was soooo good!!!! I think that man is in his early 50's now? But lawd he was sexy as all get out!

I don't get the hype around Tamar Braxton. She's not all that great to me. And her acceptance speeches for her awards were very fabricated. It was like she was doing an audition for a tv role.

The finale was great!!

And agree about Tamar. I just don't like her. Her outfit was horrendous. Her speeches and her voice just grated on my nerves. Even my son was like WTH??? Who the hell???
