She's really gone after that whole "Next Mariah" title. This is nearly a note-for-note recreation of Mariah's version, complete with the little giggle at the end.

She's got the acrobatics but I think she's missing the character that Mariah's voice has.

Also, the fact that this version is such a complete swag jag makes me a little uncomfortable. It's almost like, "Yea I took one of your signature songs and did it exactly the way you used to be able to in your prime and threw it on YouTube like an afterthought. NBD."

"That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

Damn this little girl can sing. But she is gonna need to find her own identity. Being a clone of an existing artist is lazy and insulting. We already have Mimi. Not cool.

I like this cover of "Emotions" but you will notice Ariana does not go for ANY low notes. So, you will be waiting a little longer for the "Next Mariah".

Babyface produced some of her album. Stylistically, there is nothing original about Ariana Grande that I can hear YET, but that takes time, and this is only her first album. Again, the album is very sweet sounding and contains no low sung notes.

Mariah's career is longer than this girl's life span. A cover of a Mariah tune adds to Mariah's legendary and influential status as a performer and songwriter, and not just "Tommy Motolla's payola scheme".

Ok you guys are right no lower register, all high notes but she is really good. maybe she needs to mature. Work on the type of music she wants to sing. she is good, but missing the lower registers Mariah does so well. She has good power vocals.

Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Did you listen to her album? A song here and there sounds sweet, but to listen to it front to back, I can't! It's too sweet, it's too ... just.. all high notes, man.

Don't know if any of you plan on watching Christmas At Rockefeller Center this upcoming Wednesday night, but Mimi (Mariah), Cat (Ariana Grande), and Leona Lewis are all scheduled to perform, so you have the legendary diva and her two most prolific wannabes all on the same stage. Do you suppose there will be some tension? hmmm

That does sound interesting. I would hope Mariah is a more gracious inspiration to those two ladies than Bobby Brown was to Usher. I recall the story of Usher (who still on the rise at the time) at a club or party saw Bobby Brown and immediately turned into a fanboy and called him up on the stage with him and gave him a shout out and asked him to do a little something and Bobby took offense to it thinking that the Usherman was trying to embarrass him. I think they almost came to blows before their people broke them up. I could be remembering wrong but nevertheless, Mariah should be flattered.

.

I agree that the young girl should develop her own voice but that will only come in time.

I see she is talented, but the impact of an artist's instrument is their style. So, she will need time to develop that.

She's only started guys, wait till she's a little more mature. I'm sure she'll be fine, but it'll take time.

Just don't get your hopes up. Her album has many songs that sound great !! As part of a shuffle.

Yeah on Mariah cover she sounds like weak Mariah. Who needs that?

I agree with whoever pointed out the distaste of cloning someone still active and recording.

But girl can sing. Let's just hope she grows into something.

Miss Grande is okay in my book!! That's mostly because of her singles sounding so late '90s early 2000s retro. I was in the car with my cousin last summer, heard this song on the R&B station. I was grooving to it, thought to myself: "Who is this? I don't remember this song." And then the deejay announced that it was Ariana Grande with 'Baby I', and I was positive that it was a 2001 or 2002 singer that had somehow slipped below my radar back then. Kinda glad she's making songs with that kind of vibe NOW.

I agree with the others who have said she has major talent but still has to come into her own a bit. I think her live and acoustic performances in general tend to be solid, if she doesn't overdo the vocal acrobatics. When she tries, she's fab.

I don't know if any of you guys have ever seen episodes of that 'Victorious' teen show that she was in. She's actually pretty funny in it. She plays the doofus-type of character named Cat.

I said I first thought her single was from 2001, right? Well, this is what Ariana was doing in 2001:

I dug up an old news article from '98, too.

Boca Kid gets a puck and ice

A real cutie in her red Panthers jersey, tiny Ariana Grande-Butera attracts plenty of attention when she sits in the first row behind the penalty box. Attention from the officials, from the players, from fellow Panther fans.

But the 5-year-old Boca Raton kid, who has gone to just about every home game since she turned 2, also attracts pucks. Yep. Hockey pucks.

At last night's historic Panther home opener in the squeaky-new arena, her mom, Joan Grande-Butera, was telling Insider about a game last January when her daughter was hit in the right wrist by an errant Gord Murphy shot when _ believe it or not _ she was hit again. This time by a puck fired by an unidentified Tampa Bay player.

That made her the first fan hit in a regular-season game in the new building. She was struck in the left wrist and rushed by her folks to the nearest first aid station. Diagnosis: Just a small bruise, taken care of in minutes with an ice pack.

"What are the odds of this happening,'' wondered dad, graphic designer Ed Grande-Butera, visibly shaken.

The last time, the players felt so bad that they gave Ariana various pieces of equipment. No such luck Friday night. Except that she made history once again at the first intermission. Waving at fans like a queen taking a horse and carriage ride, she was the first kid of the season to ride the Zamboni.

"She's such a great fan that we bought her the ride at an auction,'' mom said. Price tag on this one: $200.

Here's hoping that Ariana will finish the season with all her teeth.

I'm unable to view Vids at work so I have no idea what this Ariana chick sounds like until I check her out...Is she more marketable than Jessica Sanchez? Jessica sings everywhere including events @ The White House.
