I love Madonna, but her cover doesn't even stand in the original's shadow. Rose Royce all the way. I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

Madonna's 1984 version (produced by Nile Rodgers and played by the Chic band) was my first cassette, so naturally I choose that one. Rose Royce is amazing, but not the one I often listen to. Also rate the Faith Evans and Mary J Blige version. Mary J Blige does not appear on the later pressings of Faith.

^I have a soft spot for Faith and Mary's version, and was about to post it myself. Maybe it does kind of take the easy way out in staying fairly close to the original, though.
I'm not entirely sure why I never warmed up to Madonna's rendition. I like her singles okay that were released off 'Like A Virgin', but thought her albums were getting more interesting with 'True Blue' and 'Like A Prayer'. I've always been partial to her original material as opposed to covers. I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

Either which way, Miles Gregory wrote a helluva tune!
