I don't. But every time I see her perform live on TV, she makes me extremely uncomfortable. She projects this energy of being on the edge of a nervous breakdown.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Me, too. But it's not out yet and we don't know what it's going to sound like yet so it's hard to discuss it. It's called the Unrepentant Geraldines. I know some people have criticized her recent albums, but I enjoy them all. Recently she has been doing classical stuff like her album Night of the Hunters, which was okay but I enjoy her more contemporary stuff. Her last pop album Abnormally Attracted to Sin was quite a good album. I guess some people might call her self indulgent but I find her a unique artist.

When did she 'drop off' in terms of the mainstream? "Cornflake Girl" was a top 40 hit right?

I don't think it's so much that nobody cares anymore as she's just not doing PR very well lately. Just the other day I was wondering what happened to her. Looking it up, two or three albums seem to have escaped my notice completely in the last few years, and I tend to keep up with these things.

I did think her sound was starting to really get stale around the time of Abnormally Attracted to Sin. It's probably worse now.

Some of her singles were ocassionally played on the radio in the past, but she's never been a major pop artist with big hits. She's always been more of an alternative type of artist in the same vein as PJ Harvey and Bjork. I would never consider her a mainstream artist at all at any time in her career. She was played on radio in the 90's when radio was into played that more kind of alternative music. But like PJ Harvey and Bjork, she has her dedicated fans who buy her records and go to her shows that give her decent success in a cult sort of fashion. She doesn't need to do a huge amount of PR since she has her cult fan base who follow her online. Her music probably isn't going to appeal to people who follow the regular media too much. Her last couple of albums have been a holiday album, a classical album and a recorded album of her older songs which didn't have much appeal to people outside her fan base or who like more pop music, but critically they were quite well received, even though I personally prefer her standard more pop leaning albums.

I used to love her but she lost me after Abnormally Attracted to Sin. Also, when she started writing songs like "Ode to my Clothes" about her housekeeper accidentally taking some of her designer clothes to the Goodwill, plus all the plastic surgery. In the 90's she was she was all, "Fuck you, I'm no beauty queen, I'm a real girl" and now seems like she's lost her depth.

I used to class myself as a Tori-phile, right up until she released 'The Beekeeper' some years ago.

She used to release some incredible B-sides along with her regular output and showed herself to be a rare talent - there was just a torrent of creativity from her. I'd urge anyone to buy 'The Piano' which encapsulates most of her golden era if I can call it that.

I've seen her live perhaps ten times, several in the states where I remember in Boston the crowd were hyped - I've never heard screaming like that during a concert. Girls were obsessed, she was their feminine icon. I met her as she greeted her fans before entering a concert venue in Springfield, MA back in 1998 and she was inundated with all sorts of objects but was so very gracious and took time to speak to a few people.

I'm sad to say I've not even bought her last couple of albums. I've not even heard 'Abnormally Attracted To Sin' all the way through.

Artists lose their fire, it's inevitable, and I think Tori isn't the same person she used to be..she's comfortable now and that's good for her but bad for us.

When I detect that, I start to lose interest myself. Heck , I've not even listened to all of the last Kate Bush album, and I've admired her all my adult life. There are parallels with Prince too, and anyone of a certain age. Quality diminishes or if the band/artist is so inclined then they break up or gracefully retire before their legacy is tarnished further.

I used to suck everything up, but maybe it's my own age that's a factor too now. It takes alot to impress me musically these days, and those instances are quite rare. The last Tori track that I really dug was 'The Power Of Orange Knickers'. That was just too many years ago now unfortunately, but she'll always have my respect for what she produced in her youth.

I've been a massive Toriphile since Pele and my respect and admiration for her output has only increased over the years.

Of course every artist who achieves longevity will have creative peaks and Tori is no exception. But I believe the reason a lot of fans drop off as these artists get older is more to do with their own narrow expectations than it is to do with a decline in quality from the artist. The moment Tori stopped sounding full of angst and started to take more interest in her looks, her outfits etc the wrist-cutters started bemoaning how she had changed. Yes, she had changed, she seemed happier and more at peace with herself and the fans who worshipped her as some sort of anti-hero couldn't relate to her anymore. But the reality is, the music never changed. I would rank albums like Night of Hunters and Abmormally Attracted To Sin right up there with any of her 90s albums. But then I fell in love with her for the music, not the image.

I couldn't care less if she comes onto stage wearing designer clothes and a wig, as long as the music speaks to me that's all I care about.

Ode to my clothes is meant to be humorous, you're not supposed to take it seriously. I really would never classify Tori as a regular girl. That hair color isn't natural so there's always been an amount of artifice to her. She's always loved fashion, she's never really been a jean and t shirts girl. To me, music and fashion go together. It's not superficial in music because dressing up is a part of self expression A lot of my favourite artists like Madonna are very fashion forward. You can still be interested in fashion and be interested in more deep topics. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Glindathegood-Yes, she WAS a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. In fact, in her early days that was pretty much the outfit- jeans, some kooky shirt that says "Johnson's Baddy powder" or something, Steve Madden's. These garrish dresses she wears now and the plastic surgery just show how different she is now. Which is fine, people SHOULD grow but it just doesn't appeal to me any more. For whoever said that her growing upset the wristcutters, - whatever- I've never been a wristcutter , but for the record, the music used to be AMAZING and it just isn't anymore. Tori herself has said that she looks for inspiration in photography books now and I think when you have to do that it's because there's nothing there to inspire you and it's now forced. By the way, I think Night of Hunters was amazing and she should stick to that type of album. Albums like Abnormally Attracted to Sin where she was trying to recapture that angst (in concert constantly giving the bird and grabbing her crotch) plus all the "forced" anger- just didn't come work. Like someone else said, because she's comfortable now and happy. Which is good! Just don't try and give me something that's no longer there. Do more Night of Hunters albums.Anyway, I ramble, I'll check out this new album but I don't have high expectations.
