The Grammy Awards will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' landmark performance on The Ed Sullivan Show with a two-hour special that will air on CBS. The program, titled The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles, will be broadcast at 8 p.m. EST on February 9th, 50 years to the day, date and time that John, Paul, George and Ringo made their U.S. TV debut on Sullivan's show. More than 70 million viewers tuned in to that broadcast to watch the band play five songs, including "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You." The band won seven Grammys in their career.

The program will be filmed on January 27th, the day after the Grammy Awards, and it will feature "today's top artists" performing the songs the group played on the Sullivan broadcast, as well as their hits through the years. Presenters, who are yet to be announced, will provide commentary and context about the group's impact at the time. The show will also include archival clips and rebroadcast footage from the Sullivan show.

"The Beatles are one of music's most iconic groups, who won their first two Grammys, including one for Best New Artist, in 1964 — the same year they took America by storm," said Neil Portnow, President and CEO of the Recording Academy, the group that puts on the Grammy Awards. "As the Grammy Awards are 'Music's Biggest Night,' it's only fitting that we recognize this milestone moment in music history and pay tribute to this larger-than-life group and their enduring music and legacy."

Tickets to the taping will be available to the general public. Additional info, including which artists will perform and the celebrities who will attend, has yet to be announced

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Gaga, P!nk, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake To Perform Beatles Tribute

Next year will mark 50 years since the Beatles‘ historic first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, and the GRAMMYs will be celebrating the anniversary in style, via star-studded TV special.

The Night That Changed America: A GRAMMY Salute To The Beatles will be recorded on Jan. 27 (the day after the GRAMMYs), and will be broadcast exactly 50 years to the day, date and time of their Ed Sullivan appearance: Feb. 9 from 8-10 p.m. (EST/PST) on CBS.

The press release announcing the show promises “today’s top artists” performing Beatles songs. No names have been mentioned, but when the GRAMMY performers and presenters are announced, that’s a good hint of who you’ll probably see.

Brian Walsh revealed all at the recent Foxtel Upfronts:

“An all-star line-up headed up by Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono and George’s wife Olivia Harrison, along with some of the biggest names in music such as Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Adele, Bruno Mars, P!nk and Katy Perry will gather to celebrate and perform the songs of The Beatles,” he said.

Katy Perry? It was a fine line up untill I saw this name, plus, I don't get why they invite pop stars and forget rock oriented artists like Jake Bugg or John Mayer.

Hope it's not the final list after all.... Adele, Bruno, JT, Gaga, Pink, it's amazing.

Someone bought Paul's birth cirtificate for $24,000, and another person bought John's tooth that had a cavity.

Its fun that Adele sold bajillions of albums and rarely makes appearances yet she's tossed into the list like whatever. I hope she slays it - I'd love to hear her do "In My Life" or "Blackbird"

I like the way it is worded, it makes me wonder if there will be some jammin' with the Beatles instead of "tributing".
