Ten 80s Classics you might not have known were covers

http://www.metroweekly.com/soundwaves/2013/11/flashback-ten-80s-classics-you-might-not-have-known-were-covers.html

I thought some of you might enjoy this one. These are some that I came up with. What are some other good ones? I tried to go with the bigger hits.

Cum On Feel Tha Noize - Quiet Riot; Was originally recorded by Slade.

Our Lips Are Sealed - The Go-Go's; Though written by Jane Wiedlin of The Go-Go's and Terry Hall of new wave group Fun Boy Three, it was Fun Boy Three who recorded the song first.

Everytime You Go Away - Paul Young; It was a massive hit for Paul Young in 1985, but it was written and recorded by Daryl Hall and John Oates ten years earlier.

VainAndy can't blame Whitney Houston for Saving all my love for you or the greatest love of all. 'Cuz she wasn't the first one to cover these songs.

Two minor misses on the list

Read Em and Weep -- Barry Manilow his last Top 40 Hit, from 1983, written by Jim Steinman, originally done by Meat Loaf in 1981 on the album "dead Ringer" it was re-done by Manilow in 1983 as one of 3 new tracks on his Greatest Hits Volume 3 album.

And another would be Power of Love--Laura Branigan from 1987 also would be a HUGE hit for Celine Dion in the early 90's going to number one for her and #26 for Branigan in 1987, actually went to number #68 for Air Supply in 1986, but of course its original was the biggest hit for Jennifer Rush of the UK going to number one in many countries but in the USA couldnt get past #57 in 1984.

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

eek

ok, now I've lost any lil respect/interesr that I may have had for Kim Carnes...

and perhaps some folks already know this, but the Rolling Stones' biggest ballad of the 80s, Waiting on a Friend (1981) was already a full-fledged recorded/produced song back in 1973...

Der Kommissar - Falco vs. After The Fire: Falco recorded the original version in his native German language which was a huge hit throughout Europe, but it was After The Fire's translated English version which was a hit in the USA.

Natalie Cole's 1988 smash "Pink Cadillac" was originally recorded by Bruce Spingsteen, who released it as a B-side in 1984.Springsteen also wrote it.

the interesting thing about Whitney is....she and Clive Davis were very clever. They chose songs that had been flops for other artists, and re-made them.Since most people had never heard the original versions, they assumed that Whitney sang it first lol

kibbles

two my favorite 80s song were covers: "tainted love" and "always something there to remind me". i didn't know they were covers until way, way later. however, my most favorite cover, "i feel for you", i knew was a cover b/c i wore my little cassette of prince's second album out! it is everything a cover should be, i think: the singer makes it their own, put a different spin to it, and makes it almost new. i still love prince's version, but love chaka's equally.
