Why Didn't Her Record Company Release This As A Single?

It was just different enough to stand out and the performance is strong, not out of her vocal range like a lot of her later stuff. Plus I love the keyboard work:

anything would have been better than that, "Girl On Fire" mess.

It's telling that "Girl On Gire" was commissioned for "The Hunger Games" but was rejected for not being a good fit. So it being a soundtrack song that was transitioned to lead single status was a bit jarring. But people really love that track so...

But this track is so much stronger, and the album was slept on.

Have you every heard, Pink's rendition of it? MUCH BETTER.

As for Alicia, they could have even released, "New Day".
