Black Girls DEFINITATELY Rock! This was a great showcase of female talent and merit. #1 - Alice Smith was GRRRRRREAT. So glad she is getting her light. So much deserved.#2 - Notice how a lot of the performers have directly worked with Prince? Patti Labelle, Misty Copeland, Ledisi, Eve, Alice Smith, Janelle Monae. Might be missing someone others but you know he knows who ROCKS! ThankUPrince!

I tuned into this and it was so refreshing to finally see a watchable awards show this year. I love the positivity of this. Definitely something that is missing on television. Absolutely loved Ms. Patti's performance of "You Are My Friend" A living legend is definitely what she is. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I was wondering how this show went the other night. Anybody got any performance clips?

You could try Youtube or going to the BET website to see if they have any performance clips there. The best hands down was Patti Labelle but I loved Jennifer Hudson's performance as well. Alice Smith was amazing. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I missed a big part of this, I saw that Patti LaBelle was going to be on it...
Can anyone tell me what she was honored with or did she just sing?

I saw the last hour of it. She performed "You Are My Friend" and at the end of the show, Mimi presented her with the Legends award. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Yep I saw Ledisi's performance and she was definitely good. Looked great too, did she recently lose some pounds? The only performance that I felt was mediocre was Kelly Rowland's performance. Oddly enough, not long after her performance is when Patti was honored and during her acceptance speech she mentioned that young women don't need to be on stage half naked performing if your talent speaks for itself. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I thought this was the best solo performance I've seen from Kelly. She wasn't as good as some of the others, but she was good to me. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Nice to see Patti wearing such a nice, warm cardigan/ robe. Such a shame the poor girl on the left can't afford to buy some nice warm clothes too ... Maybe we should all club together and send her something to keep her warm this coming winter ...

Patti Doesn't she get to perform and get an award at every 'Black' award show?
Are there no other legends that are still doing much more than Patti?
I'm still mad at her for messing up Purple Rain

- - You know...you got a point. How many other legends get overlooked at award shows because they weren't as popular as Aretha or Patti? Good question.

Aretha I feel (still) does more the Patti had ever (still) . Not knocking Patti, but ... You Are My Friend at almost every show(came out when?) . Are only those in (RnB) Legends? No Anita Baker, No Nancy Wilson(Jazz) Diane Reeves(Jazz) Etta James, Patti Austin(Jazz)
I remember at the one s.how where 'Treyzongs?' and Patti royally messed up Purple Rain, they barely made mention of Lena Horne(RIP)

Cindy Birdsong, Nona Hendrix, & Sarah Dash You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Kelly repped her girl Janet again. Loved her performance.
Patti doing You Are My Friend is always a religious experience!
I loved Jennifer Hudson's song and performance, and she's looking great.

This particular awards show focused not just on the recipient's popularity, but the ways in which they have trailblazed for those who came after them.

Have to admit, that statement really grabbed me in an age where fame is only tantamonut to the number of twitter followers you have or likes you get on Instagram selfies.

Lol...thought the exact thing...it was like a Prince appreciation! This is the 3rd time I was blessed to hear Alice Smith ...March's Carnegie Hall Prince tribute, New York City Winery and viewing her on Black Girl's Rock. I am now a true convert to her style of rock, pop, funk, jazz and spoken word approach...all of her performances were are distinctly diverse but united by her gifts, energy and raw talent. Of course it was a joy to see our "rich aunt" Patti Labelle, Ledisi, Eve (great to see her...still like "Hot Wit U") and Janelle Monae who truly rocked!! But Misty Copeland's story of over coming all odds and beginning her career well past the recognized time most individuals start ballet training is always inspiring. The only/main African American dancer with the ABT, I so love her and pray I see her preform live. She's on my same bucket list that includes going to the PfunkMotherland (Paisley Park). See remanins me of the joy I still receive from watching "Billboards" with the Joffrey Ballet to Prince music. Misty is the 2nd solo ballerina to bless us to dance to Prince and support his love of the arts...lol...and gorgeous woman probably : ) I'm was overjoyed Misty was highlighted and recognized...maybe millions of ballerina will be birthed through her testimony of pressing forward even when you don't fit the status Que...like Prince!!! I had aspirations of being a choreographer so all dancers move me deeply. And it was time for the art form to be celebrated. It was my favorite Black Girls Rock...including the woman who started head start, as well as, the wonderfully powerful and especially enthusiastic young woman activist from Chicago, she was fabulous! All the young girls making a difference in the world was phenomena also. For the sensation celebration of black girls/women and the strong thread of Prince weaved through out the show...it Definitely Rocked!!! Was it good 4 U?
Was I what U wanted me 2 B? If it's not alright...it will B Because...even when I lose...I win
