Wow! I watched a 2 hour Jimi documentary last night on PBS. The similarities between he and Prince are uncanny! His love for his Guitar, his passion when playing it (facial expressions included), writing lyrics in the rain, (even his handwriting), his need for his own studio (Electric Lady), which was a pioneer move on his part and so much more! Also his flair for clothing styles (which were not just for shows), Jimi is shown wearing pants with buttons on the bottom sides like Prince had in the eighties! I mean this cat had Style! so ahead of his time! I highly recommend this documentary for any Prince fan and Jimi fan of course. It also has the full version of "The Star Spangled Banner" at Woodstock ... WOW!!! It covers many years of his life with a large series of concert footage. Very very informative with rarely seen footage and still shots of Jimi... Don't miss it!

And like it was stated in the other thread:
Can't be any similarities, if one is imitating the original
But agree that Jimi was way ahead of his time

Yes, I watched it also. Jimi was a "beast" with personality. He without a doubt loved not only music but also his guitar. Hmm, sounds familiar. The documentary never appeared to make him a drug addict as some may think he was. Let's face it, he played Woodstock, maybe a lil weed and stuff but no addict. Only addicted to the music. Gone too soon.

Thank you! Didn't know it was on... Fortunately I can watch it on the PBS website tonight! "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Reposted here from previous thread on this topic from a few days ago, for reasons of completism ....................
This documentary was shown here in UK last night. Was worth watching if a little shallow in places, but little new to me info-wise, though there were some nice snippets of live performances I'd never seen before, but all very short, apart from Star-Spangled Banner at Woodstock.
This was produced with the co-operation of the Hendrix Estate, but even so, was disappointed by them still propagating the 'sanitised' version of his demise, which, according to the widely available books I've read, just no longer holds water compared to the claims of ambulance personnel etc who were at the scene of his passing in London, and later conflicting claims of alleged 'witnesses' after the fact - as outlined here in this interesting article - http://www.classicrockmag...i-hendrix/

Don't forget the part about getting Warner Brothers to pay for it!

Finally found time to watch it today and it was very good. He seemed to be a very fun, but shy guy. I love how they outlined that he only really cared about two things, his music and women. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Saw it twice this week, Jimi loved music/guitar so much in funky ways, reminds me of the unique ways Prince relates to his instruments and music 2Gether 4Ever
