I'm sorry, but I have to laugh at the idea of a LaToya Jackson 2-CD Deluxe Edition Who's really gonna buy this?? The album doesn't even have no hits on it!

I'll laugh WITH ya, Soul, but on the contrary, her Funkytowngrooves reissued/remastered set, "Heart Don't Lie" sold out within a month and now it's outta print! Go FIG-yah, rite? Hope you're well, buddy! Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

I have to agree with you here. In fact that shit is probably better than Rihanna and Beyonce's albums. I'm intrigued and may check this out as well. Aint no shame in my game either.

I love you LaToya but come on. Hell, I'd take Marlon's Baby Tonight Deluxe Edition. PRINCE: Always and Forever

I wonder if Motown will ever put out Tito's unreleased solo album. They've re-released albums by lesser known acts like Chris Clark & Kiki Dee. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

But those Chris Clark and Kiki Dee LPs were actually releases back in the 60s. Not just collecting dust in the Motown vaults like Tito's music. PRINCE: Always and Forever

HAPPYPERSON said: Originally released in 1988, "You’re Gonna Get Rocked!" was a major departure from La Toya’s earlier material and found her targeting the international market with a host of high-profile collaborators, including synthpop legend Harold Faltermeyer, hip hop innovators Full Force and pop production powerhouse Stock Aitken Waterman. This is all you need to know about the album! You can't fade a 1988 Full Force & SAW production.

"Heart Don't Lie" was way better than Janet's "Dreamstreet", released that same year. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

When I noticed that Saw & Full Force were producers for this I knew I wanted in lol! Seriously I love both production teams. I downloaded the album so I'll have to give it a good listen later. I bet it's hot!

Well, you can't complain that Latoya's stuff is coming out. It's not Motown!

How have LaToya and Rebbie's 80s albums been reissued buy not Marlon, Jackie and Tandy's? PRINCE: Always and Forever

Were they not better charting originally? Because I personally have better real memory from the 80s of Rebbie and Latoya's albums than the brothers' at all.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The did chart better, but I think the brothers albums are in more demand now a days.
I mean how many discussions have we seem on here of Rebbie's LP as compared to Randy or Marlon? PRINCE: Always and Forever

Rebbie's LP is just a serving platter for "Centipede" which gets posted wayyyy more often than anything by the brothers.

I know about Marlon's solo album from the 80's. He had a pretty sizeable R&B hit with "Don't Go". But, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who actually remembers it. Never knew Jackie and Randy did solo albums. I guess there were no successful singles??? I don't recall hearing anything on the radio or music video shows. Rebbie and Latoya's albums had some productions/lyrics from the brothers.

The album is pretty good for me LOL. She has a terrible voice, but Full Force come through with some fun songs.
Infact, the LP was almost like Side A were the US production team and Side B the Europeans. Side A comes out on top easily, but I never liked SAW productions and this album was no different. Had no idea the terrible track "Just say no" had been remixed on the album (hence the bonus track), but infact it had! The hook of that stupid song is catchy as hell though
Harold Faltermeyers sole contribution "Turn on the radio" is a real guilty pleasure. Lord knows what the lyrics are about, but that's just typical of some euro dance music anyway LOL. I just love the song and production, aswell as the goofy vocoder break down. Compare Harold's production on this track to the SAW one's and to me anyway, his sound was miles more interesting and "intricate". SAW's stuff often sounds lazy and uninspired to me....

"You blew" is by far my fav track though. I love all the "to and fro" chatter between Latoya and Full Force.
Luckily, Full Force were clever by hiding Latoya's voice most of the time with lots of sound effects and backing vocals. Much needed LOL
"FF got my back, just incase you act wack". Tell 'em Latoya!
I also love this cheesy as hell line by one of the guys:
Full Force:"Hey Baby I'll teach you your ABC's, I'll be there" Latoya:"Well alright"

I remember Black Beat magazine's review of this album. They weren't kind they wrote:
These days,it's not about being a powerhouse like Aretha Franklin. But,you at least gotta be vocally convincing.LaToya is neither.
ouch! | |

Yes but have you actually heard it LOL.
I bought it many years ago as a teen as I stumbled across a copy on vinyl (now I have it on CD), and I still like some of it. As I said, Full Force actually make her sound tolerable on a couple of tracks....
Though their ballad for her, "Not giving up on love", despite sounding like their own "All in my mind", which is fair enough, must hold the title for "most overly programmed drum track on a ballad ever". And on this one, unfortunately they dropped the ball as she sounds awful. The song is awful too LOL. Ballads always gave away a bad singer back then....
Much better is "If I could get to you", which had the benefit of having a great singer duet with her in John Pagano (his solo album in the early 90's is very underated I feel). Unfortunately, it's not on youtube, but it's a nice slice of midtempo 80's rnb. Seriously LOL. This is one of those "hidden" rnb tracks that would of been pretty great if pretty much anyone but Latoya sang on it LOL. As it stands, its a wasted track, but still interesting though.

It was all about the title track and its video clip.

Video clip is fun. I don't mind the song actually, even if it does seem to ripoff "hangin' tough" abit.
