D'Angelo doesn't deserve fans. He squandered them. You don't go 14 years (and counting) in between albums. That's a blatant sign of disrespect to your fans, and basically bidding them an adieu. His fans moved on to other artists who were willing to entertain them.

It's a shame and a waste that's what it is. All that blah blah blah hype about a single, an album, this year. Magazine articles (GQ in particular) all for nothing. We get all these fake retirements from everyone. Why doesn't he just be honest and officially retire. And for the love of God I hope he's not tinkering with this thing for THIS long! We know how long-tinkered albums come out.

wave I'm still here. Whenever the new album gets here, I'm sure it'll be awesome.

Just give the man a break, he does not owe us anything and he is not doing what he is doing to spite us. I am looking forward to the album and have been for years, like the rest of you, and when it does come out we can enjoy a musical gift for even more years to come.

Just my 2 cents

"Voodoo" has already prevented that from ever happening.

I disagree with you! Van Hunt is a more interesting songwriter than D'Angelo. D'Angelo is a much

more interesting personality, hence his continued popularity. Voodoo is an album of vamps and

D'Angelo's inspired studiocraft - sure. But Van Hunt's last two albums blow Voodoo out of the water -

they have more interesting songs.

I'm tellin' ya: in thirty years, after D'Angelo's released only three albums, music fans will wonder

why we focused on the more interesting personality, as opposed to the dude producing new art.

Voodoo mostly sounds like everything else in the 70s. What Were You Hoping For? is new ground.

Identity

Surely whatever amount of material he has amassed over the past decade plus can not be so masterful and absorbing to justify the endless postponement.

It is my belief that he will not put out a full album of songs anytime in the near future.

There should be a rule on the org that no thread about D'Angelo will be created unless there was an album released by him at 12am that same day. Otherwise, it's the same discussion over and over, just a different day.

Y'all knew he wasn't gonna put nothing out. He, Stevie Wonder and Dr. Dre are gonna put albums out in the next century.

Least Stevie had a rich body of work cool Dre & D'angelo got 2 albums...

Both of D's are great and The chronic is... eh sure a classic. 2001 is just ok too me.

Either Stevie is a legend with a rich body of work so i can wait with him lol D could have been great... but he can't get a 3rd album out.

Not holding my breath for D'Angelo or Maxwell. I will listen to what I have. That's it. Those two could have changed the whole current scene.

I love some of that Van Hunt, but to be honest, I sometimes wonder when he will find himself truly. When he in one song is changing between mimicking Rick James and Curtis Mayfield back and forth like it was the most natural thing to do. Sometimes it works, sometimes it just sounds weird to me.

At the very least, these artists should level with the fans.Be honest.Don't keep saying you're "working on a new album" if that's not really the case. And if you're gonna retire, just come right out and say that.D'Angelo owes his fans that much,at least.

Questlove is very quiet on this. But D could be about to drop the 1rst single, working out, doing photo shoots or/and maybe shooting a video for the single. I maybe wrong but that medical emergency always was a bit suspect to me.
