Why Thriller had no electronic sounds

MJ released Thriller in the end of '82. Mike has always used Disco&Funk sounds in his music. Thriller is no exception. He did eventually go to Electronic sounds and was an innovator but not this one. It did have Electro-Boogie sounds but not the synthseizer sounds we were use to in The 80s. WHy is that you assume? Michael was always ontop, creative, and would try something new.

Working up a purple sweat.

There were several synths used by many great players on the Thriller album. The synths used were some of the most popular at the time. The Minimoog, Prophet 5, Jupiter 8, Synclavier and the Yamaha CS80. The sound you're thinking of is probably the Yamaha DX7 which was the first popular digital synth in the 80's. It came out in 1983. The one synth I believe Michael avoided having on Thriller were Oberheims. It was Princes sound.
